Putting a port hole in your reso bass head gives your bass drum more attack, wheras a bass drum without a port hole is more "boomy".

What I mean by 4-piece though is 4 drums, but I think you all get the point.

I still use hi-hats, 2 crashes, a splash, a ride, and a china.

This is somewhat hard to explain but...

One day I was messing around on a practice pad doing triple bounces with each hand (rrr lll) and then somehow they accidently got garbled into each other...

I guess a 4 pc. suits me. The genres of music that I enjoy playing don't neccessarily call for 69+ toms and 669 cymbals, so everything works out well. Grooving is my specialty and favorite, so many...

About a week ago, I went from a 6pc. set to a 4pc. set. I felt a lot more comfortable, and I could place my cymbals where I couldn't before. I love having my ride where my 12" tom used to be. Playing...

You're mainly just paying for the name to be on the drums.
I would look else where if your going to spend over $1500.
