Re: R.i.P Vic Firth

Really sad to hear. I met him twice, and I liked him very much.

Rest in peace Vic.

Re: I'm a jaded music industry guy

This (un)marching drummer has an amazing technique, but I fail to hear any music in his playing.

Here's a very musical ensemble, using only basic techniques ;-)...

Re: Seeking Rare Colaiuta Album

I have it, I found it on ebay years ago !

One of the things that make this album amazing is the fact that it was recorded direct to two tracks !

Another album recorded direct to two tracks with...

Re: Steve Gadd's 70th birthday

I've had the great pleasure to witness that band with James Taylor, from the first row, in last March.

The last James Taylor CD is just great in my opinion. I bought the limited edition version :...

Re: Tempo Training Program?

You may find this interesting Beyond Te Metronome (http://www.inchronicity.com)

Then, by the way, you should also attend the ear training curriculum ;-)

Sting - Paris 1985 - Bring on the Night

Thirty years ago, I was invited to attend one of Sting's rehearsals and then a concert, and I tell a little about it on my blog !

Sting - Paris 1985 - Bring on the Night...

Re: Gospel Linear Fill w/ Lindsay Artkop

People insulting others anonymously on a forum are normally not worth replying.

But since you asked, exclamation marks are just meant to express enthusiasm.

For the rest, it is obvious that...

Re: Using older Ipad for Performance and Teaching

I have an iPad 2, and there's chances I will buy a new one whenever the new models come out this Fall.
Then I will probably keep the iPad 2 at my studio, because I think it will be perfect to keep...

Re: Gospel Linear Fill w/ Lindsay Artkop

Thanks for the nice comments ;-) I don't see myself as a tired and old person at all. I don't participate much in the forum, although I read some messages and try to participate in a positive way...

Re: Gospel Linear Fill w/ Lindsay Artkop

You should keep on practicing it slowly, until you can actually make it sound good !!!

I would think it is well possible that there was a click.

Re: Keith Hall Jazz Drums Books

It looks interesting, too bad there's no sample pages and mp3s on the site, as it seems.
And the international shipping fee is ridiculous.

Re: Play alongs at many different tempos

You may want to try the Groove Essentials series by Tommy Igoe.
There's many mp3s in many different styles and tempos.

Then also try the Transcribe! app...

Re: Interesting minimalist style...

In the beginning it was a little difficult to hear that it was in four, but I found it very much interesting and fresh!

Nice feel, nice ideas, congrats !

Re: Capelle Drums

I used to have a Capelle hi-hat at the end of the seventies, and many pro French drummers used one at that time. Vintage Capelle hi-hat (http://www.leboncoin.fr/instruments_de_musique/789438185.htm)...

Re: Drumless backing tracks?

The best app to do this is Transcribe (http://www.seventhstring.com/xscribe/download.html?a=70)! It is cheap but not free.

Re: Stuck on Stick Control book

This grouping is called an octuplet. It has eight 16th-notes instead of six.

It is interesting to note that the real value of these notes is that of dotted notes, as it is stated in the book, but...

Re: Polyrhythm Metronome App

I have it, if it's the one with the icon displaying 5:3 PolyRhythm
I've had it for years but couldn't say I really used it.
It seems pretty basic, and PolyNome is probably more interesting.

Re: A question on Real Books

As a drummer who also studied a melodic instrument (the cello), it always made sense to actually have lead sheets to learn new songs. I feel I can better follow the song forms as well as the melodies...

Re: Multirhythms limb independence and rhythm training app

What is your app supposed to do?
I downloaded it and tried it for about 30 seconds, and then I erased it.
Maybe I didn't get how great it was!?

James Taylor & Steve Gadd yesterday night

I've been a James Taylor fan since I was 18.

Yesterday was actually the second time I was seeing him in concert, and yesterday's concert was pure magic.

The choice of songs, the band, the sound...

Re: Odd time signature songs for beginners

OK, when you're ready for changing meters, you can try Darlene by L. Shankar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpPQB_QHd2w). The first two bars are in 5/8, and then it changes ;-)
