Could I also suggest that if you are practicing your tunes, try playing with brushes instead of sticks... or maybe some mallets. Try playing the tune like it's a ballad if it's an up-tempo burn, or...

Well, there's really a very small chance that you'd be playing a gig that would require you to play a one handed roll...

Another option- which I believe is really beneficial, is to simply play quietly.

The pad is always good too, especially for working on the foundation to your playing. The other thing I tend to do...
