Re: Peavey Radial Pro 750 - Value?

That would be a much better deal. Figure, the Pearl rack runs $400, new. So ..... if your getting a rack and stands ..... maybe a $300 value, used ..... that brings the price of the drums down to...

Re: Udu recommendations

It's all about tone. And to some extent, volume. I tried a few different types, and wound up loving the LP.

Re: 1968 Ludwig Supraphonic a good investment?

Indeed. Savings ..... even money market accounts .... not very good investments. You wanna look into trying to double your money, every 5 to 7 years. 10 at the tops. Mutual Funds, REITs, and...

Re: Please help identify this vintage kit

Yes, Slingerland were 3 ply http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_3_shells9.html Also, Slingerland vent holes were centered, as your vent holes appear to be. Ludwigs weren't. So it's looking...

Re: 1968 Ludwig Supraphonic a good investment?

An investment? No. A good sounding snare. Yes. "a price that is considered good around here" doesn't really define the situation .... but on eBay, these drums are easy to score. And you're...

Re: Please help identify this vintage kit

Check the hole spacing. If a Ludwig lug will mount to the existing holes .... then you've certainly got a better chance of these being Ludwig shells. Doesn't look like holes were plugged and/or...

Re: Ludwig identification

Some interesting drums. The 6 ply shells (24 and 18) first came out in 1976. So those should have B/O badges, or Monroe. Easy enough for people to score badges off eBay ..... so I kinda doubt the...

Re: 1970s Ludwigs - Confusing Me

Basically, these are the drums that Ludwig re-introduced (finally) as the Legacy series. I have a 26" 1940's bass drum, That is of this construction. A 3 ply shell, with reinforcement rings. Ludwig,...

Re: Peavey Radial Pro 750 - Value?

The 750's were the mid-level kits. Peavy had a 500, 750, and 1000 series. Here's a 1000 ..... 22, 10, 12, 14 going for $1000 ...

Re: Parents won't let me buy a drum set

You really need to explore a little more why the folks don't want a drum set around. Sure, maybe it's they don't like the idea of the noise. Or ...... maybe they're afraid of the neighbors...

Re: Drum finishes - a natural debate

Apart from my Luddie Red Vistalites, my other 6 kits are all varying shades of blonde. Here, the lightest and the darkest.

It's already making a great story. First time out with a band ..... and you're playing a double-header. You'll do fine.

Re: What stain/oil would I need to get a finish like this

I'd stop into a hardwood specialty shop like Rockler. A tint like TransTint http://www.woodfinishersstore.com/transtints/ will get you where you need to be. Pick out the shade you desire .... and...

Re: What makes it real?

If someone is willing to spend their hard earned cash on a set of drums ..... I'd guess that's real enough for them.
