Re: Considering a new kit

I haven't played the Live Custom, but I have an original Yamaha Oak Custom kit. The Oaks are a bit more aggressive sounding than either Tour Customs or RC's. For me, that's a good thing. It gives me...

Re: Considering a new kit

If you are looking to stay around $2000, I don't think the new RC's will be in that price range. Here's an older Recording Series kit with 22x14, 12 13 16 in natural finish. These technically aren't...

Re: My P-86 does NOT fit in my Supra!

If its truly only a 1/16 of an inch, I would enlarge each hole just a hair with a round file. If you enlarge each hole 1/32, I don't think anyone would ever notice. And that way, you're not taking a...

Re: YAMAHA QC fail! ☹

Since you are saying that they are only a wee bit off, is it possible the lug bolts just need to be loosened up and the lugs straightened up a bit, then re-tightened? There may be a little bit of...

Re: Selling my Yamaha Beech Customs. What should I ask? (pics)

I love the finish and have played Beech Customs. They are really nice, warm sounding drums. The kick is a beast. Unfortunately, this is one Yamaha line that doesn't fetch a great price. I would think...

Re: Is this a good deal for an LM400?

As Steve B said, 'keystone badge' still leaves a lot unknown. The drum is probably worth no less than $150, unless its in poorer shape than stated. If its a 1980's-2000 keystone badge model with...

Re: Cleaning drums

Some think that furniture polish should be used. Nope, polish will break down the lacquer. A damp cloth is perfect.

I've never waxed my drums. But the non-ammonia window cleaner is safe and...

Re: Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute Blue Sparkle bassdrum

I'm not sure what kind of advice you are seeking. If you'd rather have a 24", then look for one. But, they probably aren't all that common. The obvious places are eBay and Craigslist. You can post a...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Considering a pack of Moongel is what, $7? And die cast hoops will cost you much more, why don't you try the Moongel first, and see if it does the job for you? I'm with you: I don't like muffling any...

Re: Hanging Toms vs. Floor Toms - Yamaha Hexrack

In going back to the OP's original questions, I would say this:

If you are mostly playing small clubs (as you stated) I think using a rack and hanging toms is a big mistake. If you were playing...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Bentley's has listed a few more MIJ Absolute kits on eBay, as well as some individual drums. They are all Cherrywood, Solid Black and Vintage Natural, which were the 3 stock colors. Here's a link to...

Re: Looking for a good intermediate kit for about $600

I own ton of gear that I bought used. I have a few things that I bought new. There are positives and negatives of either way. But, if I was a young guy and was looking for a kit and had $600 to...

Re: PDP Concept vs Redesigned Yamaha Stage Custom

With the recent upgrades to the Stage Custom, I believe they are the best buy you can get in this space. Ridiculous kit for the money.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Thanks, and good luck with your kick. I'm sure you'll be keeping us informed.

The thing about buying drum gear is this: in my case I've bought the majority of my collection, used. I'm very...

Re: Yamaha Chinese YESS Mount

Yes, you are experiencing OCD :)

As far as I know, Sakae never produced the hardware. Yamaha produced the hardware initially in Japan, then in Indonesia and then in China (even before the plant...

Yeah, Neal, this is getting to be kind of interesting. Are you my long lost twin? We definitely have similar tastes when it comes to drum gear. Glad you like the snare. I was using a little piece of...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Those look just like the older RC/Tour T-rods, so would work well, visually. As far as the fit, they are made by Gibraltar so should fit Yamaha lugs.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Thanks for the kind words. So did you buy the kick? You'll have a similar thing going on, a mix of Nouveau lugs and Absolute. I've gotten to the point that I don't even discuss my gear with the wife....

Yeah, come on. Stay focused. One kit at a time. Take deep breathes. Count to ten (and all that sorta stuff). Aren't you still waiting for an Oak kit, or do you have it??

I'm most certainly done...

Thanks, Neal. Yeah my patience paid off in this case. I simply didn't find anything I was interested in, until these popped up. I sold a fair part of my RC collection over the last year, so I could...

Re: Where can I buy a Yamaha Rock Tour?

There seem to be a few floating around, but I didn't see any for $399 or whatever they were closed out at. There are 2 on eBay, There are 2 on GC used.

Google it, there seem to be a few on...

Re: Yamaha Drums

There's a very good reason for cutting the batter side vs the reso side when reducing the depth of a kick. Someone mentioned it - its the spur mounts. When you remove them, there are large holes in...

Did someone say Cherrywood? Finally got some time to take a few pics.

For those that don't know the backround story: I started putting a BCAN kit together about a year ago. I quickly found an 8,...
