Re: A new movie called Whiplash

Sorry, I have a thing about having to go with a friend to the movies. I've never seen a movie by myself in a theater.

Re: A new movie called Whiplash

Didn't even know this was a thing. Love to see this. Unfortunately...I have nobody to see it with :(

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I own three drumsets right now. My main Sonors I am super attached to. Even when I finally go pro-level as far as drums go, I'll still treat my meager Force 2001 set with the utmost reference.

Re: Drummers who've inspired your playing

I'd have to say my main ones are Ringo Starr, Mitch Mitchell, and Ian Paice.

Re: Blushda fill - drum lesson

Cool lick, but yeah, I would have to say your flams are pretty flat. Your grace note is almost louder than the primary. If I saw my students doing that I'd rip out my hair.

Will try to learn...

Re: Snare under $200

Honestly, would any new wood snare in the sub-$200 range be any better than a stock snare?

Re: Got about 15 mins each day to increase speed... How should I practice?

So if you want to increase speed and control, I'd concentrate on pad work.

If you're willing to buy the Tommy Igoe DVD Great Hands for a Lifetime, the Lifetime Warm-Up would be perfect. The...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

Seeing that Deep Purple hate makes me cry. They're my second favorite band :(

Re: 5 Variations on the Six Stroke Roll

By 6 stroke roll, don't you mean paradiddle-diddle but starting on a different place? My understanding that a 6 stroke roll was where the singles were 8th notes, and the doubles were 16th notes (or...

Re: What songs do you really like the drumming on?

Practically any Deep Purple song from the Mk II and III era (Mk I was great too but Ian Paice was still quite young and learning to find his style, so it wasn't quite fully developed).

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Wait....I was always told that 6-9 ply shells are more resonant than 3 ply shells, from numerous sources. I'll look it up some more, but I'm always skeptical of a single source of converse opinion....

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Also, why do people want to get the most resonant drum types possible (lots of plies, super deep bass drums, etc.) then put pinstripes or moongel or padding on it. Makes no sense. Just get a...

Re: Rock snare under $200

I honestly can't think of a snare that wouldn't be good for rock.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Thought it was common knowledge that Zildjian sticks suck. The only people I ever knew who used them were newbies on the drums. That's it. Most people figure it out real quick after that.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Late on this thread, seems to be a bunch of OT discussion now, but whatevs.

I don't like double pedals.
I don't like chinas.
I don't like muffled heads except on bass drums (like Pinstripes,...

Re: Tabs Vs. Traditional Notation

Another vote for notation.

I've looked at tab and was like "can't tell if that's supposed to be a sextuplet or 32nd notes, but its spaced like a quintuplet?"

You will never have that issues...

Re: Is *not* being told you played a great gig as good/better than being complimented?

I don't take compliments well. I never know how to respond. I'm weird like that. But if the person is a cute chick, I definitely dig the compliment.

You sure that the drums in Tomorrow Never Knows is a loop? Yes, it is consistent, but this is Ringo, even if you don't like it you have to give him props for his damn fine consistency. It would...

16 Bar Snare Solos?

I've recently joined a rock band, and rather than doing the typical free-time do a whole bunch of crap rock solo that rock drummers do, I want to approach it more like a jazz solo, just in a rock...

Re: Ringo Starr

Ringo was a major influence on me when I first started playing about 5 years ago. Sure he wasn't the reason why I picked up sticks (it was actually my brother's high school marching band, which I...
