Re: Keeping Uncle Larry in our thoughts..

I hope things are working out okay. I'm keeping your kids in my thoughts and hoping for the best. Stay strong, Larry.

Re: dying to be heard..

It sounds to me like you've got everything you need to record your own album of music. You're doing something that most would consider pretty conceptual, it sounds like you have some original...

Re: Who are the most influential reggae drummers?

I think Carlton had a lot going on, way before Bob Marley came around. The Upsetters, Lee "Scratch" Perry's group, had the Barrett Brothers and most of the nucleus of Bob's band.

Carlton Barrett...

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

So then a cowbell isn't an instrument? Or is it's only application for finding your cows?

Re: Cars/trucks for gigging. Which ones do you use?

I have a Volkwagen Transporter, which is better for a full band than for just hauling around drums. I'm looking at Audi A4 wagons. Should be better for ripping around the autobahn.

Re: Wondering what everyone has to say about trying to make a living drumming?

I agree with you, Bermuda. $600 seems awfully low for what I would suspect a mid-level band to bring down a night. My band does much better than that, and that's not counting merch sales. I wouldn't...

Re: Punk/Fast Drumming

I gave up trying to keep up with all the genres. It's exhausting. I was playing punk drums until someone told me I was playing hardcore drums, then I was told I was playing D-beat drums, and all this...

Re: Wondering what everyone has to say about trying to make a living drumming?

I can agree with that, however, there's nothing wrong with asking out of curiosity.

I think if you're an originals band, it's hardest at the start. You play for nothing, have no fans that aren't...

Re: 80's Imperialstar

Man, do those bring back some memories. I had an Imperialstar kit. Loved it. What a beast!

Re: My day = good & bad

Chest pain is nothing to mess with, and it's good that you are taking the right steps to take care of yourself. Scary.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Arguing about who goes into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about as pointless as arguing who should get a Grammy. It's largely out of the public's hands anyway. And everybody is either going to...

Re: Can we get a 'new replies' feature?

I like the "New Posts" button, but it took a little getting used to the fact that it would only show new posts since last refresh, as opposed to new posts I haven't read yet. I've been using it more,...

Re: Punk/Fast Drumming

That's a good way to do it. Playing quarters on the hat can help your speed. In some situations, it can even work to your benefit, since you can really get a beat to chug with quarters.

Re: Have you ever temporarily stopped drumming due to health issues?

When I was 40 I had to have an emergency appendectomy that almost killed me. I was in the hospital for 10 days recovering, and couldn't do anything for almost 2 months. I was in a band at the time...

Re: Punk/Fast Drumming

I'm a punk drummer and I love to gig. Love to play fast, and especially when it's fast and tight. Stamina is super important, not just to play songs consecutively but just to be able to get through...

Re: The Beauty of the Drum Set

My kit is sitting just over my right shoulder....staring at me. I don't dare look at it right now. I'll have to play it and my daughter's having a nap. She hates when I wake her up.

Re: Rhythm and melody, two different diciplines?

Couldn't you guys work out a way where your solo happens at the end of the piece, where you can play it out at any length you want, and have the band wait for the last finishing chord, signaled by...

Re: the Drummerworld movie cast

Wait a minute....wait a minute.....

I've just picked up a fault in the P-85 unit. It's going to go 100% failure in 72 hours.

"Why do you hate my drums so much, Dave?"

Maybe he'd live here.....

Re: Best 18 or 19 inch cymbals?

I have an AAX Stage Crash that I use with an AA Medium Thin. It's an okay combination, but a little lopsided. That stage crash sounds pretty good, tho.

But if I could, right now I'd love a set of...

Re: the Drummerworld movie cast

I'd like to be a day-player in this one, although I didn't make the casting call. Just write me in to explode into a green globule on my drum seat before the end of the opening credits.

My wife...
