Re: Best snares on the market

The snare I've heard recently that made me flip my lid is the Dunnett 2N Stainless steel.
8 lugs.

Very sensitive, & responsive at different tunings, and wire tensions.
The ring was there, but...

Re: Drum Size Question

Did you do a "golden ratio" for you depth examples?

I ask because I played on a wood snare a few years ago that was made with the GR, and I was amazed at its sound.
Just a standard Keller shell,...

Re: Bob Siebenberg "Supertramp" aka Bob C. Benberg

I always liked Bob's drumming. Tasteful, and so right for each song.

Re: 6.5" deep acrolite

Current list for the 6.5 Acro Classic (LM405C) seems to be $658, and are on eBay for $399 w/free ship, so it's a pretty decent price.

I don't think used 6.5 Acro's are going to pop up for a couple...

Re: Ludwig Joey Kramer vs Sensitone Brass

The Sensitone Brass Elite is a really great sounding drum. If you get one of the type with tube lugs, Pearl's tube lugs are very nice. I haven't seen a 2014 Pearl yet (haven't been to the shop in a...

I think Ronn said they were RIMS mounts on Facebook.

His drums are SO nice. Just great work.

Re: AK Snare Drums?

The Craviatto AK 5.5 Diamond snare was one of the best sounding snares I have ever heard/played.
The price tag kept me from buying though :-(

Re: My Ludwig Black Beauty Engraved by John Aldridge

Holy cow, that is fantastic.
I'd love for him to engrave one of mine.

Re: Two floor toms....

I've used 1 up, 3 down since '91 (2 down before that).
The 18 is moved more to the right than behind, and I don't do multiple strokes with 2 hands on it much at all. No turning to use it either.

Re: How long does your snare cord last?

I haven't broken any on the 9 snares I changed over a couple years ago.
I use Ludwig's gold colored cord.
No signs of wear at all, and it stays where I've set it without stretching.

Re: Snare for a $200 budget

The 5.5, or 6.5 Supralite are GREAT sounding, solid snares.
Quite a bit under $200 brand new. Very sensitive, and have good tuning ranges to be a nice workhorse snare, covering pretty much anything...

Re: New drum kit! Woohoo 28" Ludwig kick. Need some help...

I used a 28 for 10 years. I had 16x28, and 20x28.
They both sounded best to me with a coated ambassador batter with a 3x4" beater patch.
The deeper shell had 12 lugs and was a PITA to tune. The...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Got a 13" CS Black Dot for this baby. I had all the other heads.
The 12-13-15-16-18 came back, just waiting for one more 16, and the 26 to be delivered.

Drum porn when the whole kit is...

Re: New to me Acrolite

Very nice find, nice price too!

I have a '75-'76 with the same shell, but mine still has the "pointed' B/O.
Not sure what year they started with the rounded edges on the badge.
My serial number...

Re: More Creative on a Larger Kit

I feel creative with either a P-85 or P-86 on my snare. It doesn't matter which one.

Re: Bass drum pillow talk: Keeping it down

Nice idea. I like the little clams to secure it. That seems more stable and less to think about. It probably looks better too.

I use the small foam piece inside my bass drums, not touching the...

Re: The matching snare

It's also the drum on the kit someone could sell the easiest, to get something else, or if they are in a financial pinch.

High end kits may, or, may not come with a snare, but mid-priced kits...

Re: bass drum depth

Sound-wise, I like all sorts of depth bass drums.
I like the look of a deep bass drum on SOME kits.

I've never had anything but great sound (quickly & easily) from my deeper bass drums live, and...

Re: The matching snare

When I got my Red Sparkle kit in '07, I thought I'd like to get a matching snare.
After I got it, I found I didn't like the look of it at all. I liked the Red with the Black kit though.

In wood...

Re: Ludwig shells from 93?

Those would be Super Classics.
Thin maple, and a couple thicker plies of poplar.
Aug 1993

Great sounding shells. My original Mach lug kit is a Jan 1990 Super Classic.
That one is out getting...

Re: Do you ever stand back from your drums...

I knew I wasn't the only one!

I look/stare and marvel at the gear I have all the time. I have a small kit set up in my work room also, and it has 2 of the drums from my very first kit (Royce). I...
