Re: Vaseline in the lugs, bad for lugs.

I use Crisco on mine, and it seems to work pretty well. Does anyone know of any negative effects of that? I don't want to damage my drums.

Re: Your idea of a good snare sound on a record?

Joe Morello's snare on Time Out is perfect. My least favorite is the snare on Icky Thump, it sounds like all the drums were recorded from far away, but the snare sounds like it was miced too and...

Re: Jack White on drums with hid new band.

Yeah I think they're fantastic. I don't like the b-side, but b-sides aren't supposed to be that great. I love the single, though. I can't wait for the album. The girl sounds A LOT like Jack White.

Levon Helm from The Band. Seriously awesome at both.

Soloing On One Drum At a Time

I'm positive that I can't be the first person to think of this. I just got the idea a couple days ago but it's probably common knowledge. I was practicing drums and I started practicing soloing, but...

Re: dead time on stage?

If you're a noisy band, you can strum the guitar open and just get some feedback going in between songs.

Re: Grammys

I loved "Swagger Like Us"! That was my favorite part. Lil Wayne with the brass band and the Bo Diddley tribute were awesome, too.

Re: Hitting ghost notes off-centre, bad habit?

I'd say as long as your intentionally hitting off center that you're fine.

Re: Band issue

Wait, you have a singer and you play drums? What kind of music do you want to play? I'm sure you two could just do something. You could always play along to prerecorded tracks sans drums. I'm sure...

Re: Tempos of breakdowns

I think it would be better to start slow on your rudiments and work your way up, not the other way around.

Re: What was the best advice or tip that improved your drumming?

I don't remember who said this, but it was someone on the forum: "If you're breaking sticks, then you're hitting the drums, not playing them." My playing improved a ton after reading that. Thank you...

Re: Good songs for jamming to?

"A Milli" by Lil Wayne would be pretty fun. The beat is so simple and repetitive that you can just jam over it without competing with it or getting thrown off by it.

Re: Anyone 'downgraded' from a 5+ piece kit to a 4 piece?

Last year at school, the other drummer and I had a nice eight piece, perfectly symmetrical set up that shared floor toms in the middle, left handed on one side, right on the other. After a bit...

Re: musician's friend

Yeah, it must be there fault, not the cymbal makers or yours, because you both actually handled it, so that wouldn't make any sense.

Re: Pay-What-You-Want downloads from Billy Ward

You recorded that with two mics!? Was it live or done with overdubs? It sounds great: the recording and especially the music. I just listened to part of one of them right now, but when I finally get...

Re: What Drum Mics?

I just set a CAD Trion 7000 ribbon mic in front of the set and that's it. I got mine on eBay for about $150 and it sounds absolutely great. Also, if you use multiple mics to mic your drums, the Trion...

Re: First Set - Base Set ?

Definitely buy used, but try to see what you're buying in person first if it's used.

Re: Bass Drum noise?

No, not all. My drums are usually on carpet in my bedroom anyway, and mouse pads have the grippy stuff on the bottom. Plus my floor tom has spikes, and mouse pads are pretty solid.

Re: John Bonham tuning

Maybe more importantly though is that you've only heard his drums on a recording, not in real life. I know that the tuning wouldn't sound too much different, but their would be more overtones and...

Re: Hello All, I Need A "History" Lesson

Speaking of history, who's the guy that people say changed the drummer from just a timekeeper into a real member of the band with a real musical instrument? Was it Max Roache? I don't know as much...

Re: Bass Drum noise?

I have cut up mouse pads under everything between my drums and the floor (between the snare and its stand, too). They help keep the sound from going through the floor, and although this wouldn't...

Oh, I see your point. What does GMS stand for? I don't know much about the different brands.

Re: Removing a logo from bass drum head?

Does that leave the white coat on the head unharmed? Also, has anyone tried it on a coated white Evans head? Specifically a 22" G1. :)
