Re: Whats the weirdest thing you ever broke on your kit during a gig?

I haven't had gear break during a show (not a steady gigger), but did did lose power to an outdoor stage in the middle of "Margaritaville." The acoustic guitar and I played right through to the end...

Re: Ok - bearing edges :)

If you're not going to write a book, how about an info-mercial on television?? :-)

If nothing else, transcribe your tutorials to the Guru website - unless of course, that offers prospective...

Re: How much air is in between your hi-hats?

Bottom hat tilted toward me about 1/4 inch (6 mm) lower than the back. When at rest, the back of the hats are about 3/4 inch (20 mm) apart; with my foot on the pedal, that distance closes to about...

Re: What is resonance, & why does it matter.

Does "timber species" = "timbre species"?

Likely the first 'drum' was a hollow log, with the doppler effect compressing the air to act as a head. So, even a hollow log doesn't exhibit the pure...

Re: It's Tax Time

Between the federal and state governments, I owe $33 USD. When I want something, I just buy it - no need to wait for some return of over-paid taxes.

Of course, all purchases over $50 must be...

Re: Drumming Idiosyncrasies

At first I thought that was weird, but then I realized that I can't drum without my capon.

Sorry, MZ, I used to be a butcher in a past life... ;-)

Re: Can a mediocre shark be jumped over by a fantastic cheese hostess?

That one really knocked me off my perch, but ya didn't have to be so bullheadded. Keep that up and you'll find your head on a pike.

If you've got 5 minutes, watch this vid:

Re: Do You Play Another Instrument Besides Drums?

10 cowboy chords on 6 and 12 string acoustic. I can plunk my 5 string resonator banjo and can accompany almost anything you can play on a 21 chord autoharp, though don't finger-pick that thing worth...

Re: I was wrong.

I was wrong, too.

I tried to listen to the radio on my 40-minute commute last Friday, but couldn't concentrate. I tried crafting a response to the forum, but couldn't completely wrap my head...

Re: Magic wand

If I was smart, I'd ask for an auto-refilling bottle of Fuller's 1845 and a re-set button for my liver.

But, I know I'd choke in the heat of the moment and blurt out something silly like, "world...

Re: Looking for advice from fellow music store employees

One of our local music stores in Lansing, MI, USA advertises their used equipment on CL. Sort of maddening if I'm trolling for bargains, but they occasionally have some too.

If nothing else, it's...

Re: Sammy Davis, Jr.

Hugh Laurie plays a mean piano and sings the blues - plus, he's a reasonable actor.

But, I think what separates the performers from yester-year and the multi-talented performers of today, is that...

Re: Utter madness!

Who are you kidding, Andy? I smell a follow-up video - green shells versus full seasoned shells at equilibrium.

I can't wait!

Re: The Banned & the Damned - Where do they go?

One would have thought they'd need to consult a Guru. From what I understand, it's food for the soul.

Re: The things us drum building types get excited about :)

WOW! I'm not even sure you can call that monster a drill press. Sure takes "wood working" to a new level.

What's the swing and quill stroke? Swing looks to be 24 inches or more and the stroke...

Re: Spray Painting Drums?

Lots of stuff on the interweb about painting over chrome. Most processes involve sanding and a self-etching primer before a top-coat. Give it a Google and see if you're up for it.

But I'd have...

Re: How much would you pay? Help needed.

Oxford SS shirt for staff and artists - perfect. These folks represent your company and should be attired to match the product quality. Truth be told, I likely wouldn't even notice a naked person in...

Re: (The) Drum - She or He?

Drums get names? And genders?!?

I'm not even sure I can call them "mine." I'm their current caretaker and paid for that privilege, but I certainty hope they live longer than I. That being the...

Re: Removing permenant marker pen from cymbal?

+1 My boss wrote on a customer's dry erase white-board with a black permanent Sharpie marker. Customer saved the day (and the cost of a new 4 x 8 foot white board!) by scrubbing the "permanent"...

Re: As a DrummerGirl

I am certainly not famous, but I have three fans: two 20" box fans and a small 10" for behind the kit.

If I count ceiling fans, the count goes up to 6, though I chose not to count them as they...

I'll go with that, but you still couldn't stop your knee from shaking!! If it was me un-packaging, I couldn't have stayed in the camera frame!!

And the...

Re: Poor Ludwig ;(

Thankfully they were some old no-name drums. At least he didn't ruin a nice set of Cranberry Red Yamaha Stage Customs (like mine)!!!

And did he HAVE to use "flat muffler black" paint? I would...

Re: 1st annual East Coast Get Together

Sorry, Mary. The summer guys weekend isn't mine - I'm just an attendee. Long story short, it's the annual anniversary of my buddy's "stag party." It's held at his hunting camp in Michigan's upper...
