Re: Show us your "Acrylics"

One of the things on my bucket list is to one day be able to play a kit like this, even for only hour. I bet it would be a blast. I'm curious, though, did you really use every drum in the kit during...

Re: Gretsch difference

The slate silver is a beautiful lacquer finish. One thing I've noticed on a few kits with this finish (as well as the inca gold lacquer finish of the same era) is the tendency to develop small spider...

Re: Two New Gretsch Renown Series

It's interesting that the interior ply of the shells are natural, with no silver sealer like the other Renown offerings.

Re: NAMM 2015 - what do you expect to see?

Bermuda,

I noticed that the concert toms on Ludwig's big display kit don't have the usual black protective ring at the bottom. Have these now been done away with?

Re: Russo Music

Stellar prices, service, and communication. Steve is the man! I've purchased hardware, cases, and a Ludwig snare through Russo and have had nothing but positive experiences each. This is the way...

Re: Ludwig Legacy Mahagony

Yeah, I'm interested as well. Maybe Bermuda can chime in with some inside information.

Re: Ludwig Supraphonic -50th year edition

My understanding is that the only difference between this and a standard issue supra is the limited edition badge and accompanying certificate. That's not enough to make me want one of these. In...

Re: Pulled the trigger on a set of Gretsch New Classics!

I was very sorry to hear that you had to pass on the New Classic kit. It's good, however, to know that you've got your priorities straight. As others have said, you'll eventually get a new kit and...

Re: Pulled the trigger on a set of Gretsch New Classics!

Congratulations on your new kit! I've enjoyed reading over the past few weeks your accounts of trying various kits, most notably the Gretsch Renown and New Classic series. You've obviously put a lot...

Re: Looking for new kit with vintage sound?

I'm curious where you can find New Classics for that price? I've seen NOS Renown kits for under $1000, but not New Classics.

Re: Renown and New Classic Question

Yeah, I understand. I just wouldn't want to see you miss out on one of the blowout Renown deals because of the badge. I did that with the Renown '57 kits because I didn't like the chevrons. I'm now...

Re: Renown and New Classic Question

I'm not trying to start anything here but is the badge really that important in the grand scheme of things? I agree that some badges are much more appealing than others but if you like the sound and...

Re: Renown and New Classic Question

I don't want to take this thread off track but I'm curious if the tom mounting bracket can easily be removed from the rack toms on the New Classic line, or are they integrated into the lug?

Re: New Kit DW Performance

Congratulations on your new kit. Can you give us your observations on the quality of the wrap job on the Performance kits? Are the seams tight? Do you think there's any chance the seams will start to...

Re: Opinions wanted on 2 Gretsch Renown deals

I've enjoyed reading this thread since I am strongly considering one of the leftover models being blown out on ebay. So, did you end up buying the used kit?

Re: Question for Gretsch guys about a particular Renown set

That's helpful. I've seen a number of photos where close up the finish looks brownish. Perhaps is due to the lighting and the wood grain coming through. If it looks black from a distance but grayish...

Re: Question for Gretsch guys about a particular Renown set

Does the ebony finish give off a brownish hue under the lights? I'm considering this finish but would prefer that it look more black than brown,

Re: Question for Gretsch guys about a particular Renown set

Yes, it is definitely a lacquer finish. They offered a similar one at the time called Inca Gold. If this is a NOS kit, then it's probably 4 or 5 years old. I remember when MF was blowing out the...

Re: Gretsch Renown - thinking about buying

I'm not sure what the GC store clerk meant by "newer model" because the kit pictured in your link has the older tom mounting system. This finish is also being blown out by a few online retailers,...

Re: Pearl Crystal Beat Drums

Yes, DW will soon be offering an acrylic kit in their imported Design series. A 5-piece shell pack has an MAP of $1499. There are some YouTube clips of the kit from the 2014 Frankfort trade show.

Re: Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz here!

I've been having a blast listening to Word Crimes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gv0H-vPoDc). If only Weird Al could've worked into the lyrics drummers referring to "symbols" in their "4 sale"...

Re: New Ludwig Classic Maple Badges

The new badge is referred to as the "Monroe badge" and was introduced in January 2013. I have a Ludwig Jazz Festival snare that has the new badge and I like it a lot. It has more depth and to me is a...

Re: 2014 STAGE CUSTOM, better than ever?

I agree! The quality of drums in this price range have certainly improved in recent years but of all the options in this price range, Stage Customs are the best in terms of hardware and build...

Re: thoughts on aluminum

The 6.5x14 Acrolites, either the black coated ones from the recent past or the newer reissued models, have 10 lugs and aren't susceptible to the acne problems you see with many of the Supras.
