Re: Sonor vs. DW

That's not an endorsement for Ambassadors then. My coated Aquarians hold up much better than that, even with brush work.

Re: Sonor vs. DW

That's a gorgeous set. Those heads look like they've seen more than a few light jazz gigs though...

Re: how old is my Yamaha 9000 Floortom?

That would imply a build date of May 1989 (the link only provides the dating of serial numbers from 1980, and its is PL). It looks older that that...

Re: "Museum piece" kits

If it's in some kind of a museum, i.e. for people to look at, learn from and enjoy: most definitely. If it's stored in a vault, the sole intention to become more valuable: not so much.

Re: I like cheap snares

Let me know if you need to get rid of that Maple Custom piccolo you acquired recently. I might like to buy it off you.

Re: Good snare drums after the packaged kit one

A 14" Ludwig Supralite snare in 5.5" depth can be had from Thomann for a bit under 120. There are plenty of folks on DW ready to sings its praises.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Not sure at all, and I take your product range comment so I've probably misread something somewhere. Must have been in eBay listings where they may have been listed as discontinued.

Sorry for the...

Re: Yamaha Drums

I thought they had ceased manufacturing of all metal snares, but I'm not certain. Which models do you reckon are still being produced?

Re: I accept defeat.

Well someone had to do the printing.... And whose handwriting was it??

..

But thanks for that, wasn't aware of the old "iland" spelling. And were they the same cartographers that mixed up San...

No offence intended, but what's with Americans and spelling?

Re: Yamaha Drums

IMO the Manu Katche is a better sounding drum than the other Yamaha brass snares from the same era. Not sure if the shell is the same...

Re: Restoring hardware on an old kit

It's been mentioned here before (and I have used this method successfully), and that is to use aluminium foil and water to polish chrome. Works wonders!

Re: Ludwig Copper Phonic

I used to own a Yamaha SD-6105 seamless copper snare. Complex indeed, but wonderful. Shouldn't have sold it... Why do you say you think the Ludwig is a better drum?

Re: First pictures - new Tour series zebrano

Beautiful looking wood, as mentioned a bit Sonor-like (of which I'm a great fan). Sure to be a success!

Re: New Score off eBay

You're welcome. Forgot to mention I have Aquarian single-ply texture coated heads on the toms, and an Aquarian SKII on the kick. Toms really sing and kick has a nice thud (no other muffling).

Re: How to attach Sonor Jungle Snare to a Hi-hat

I think you need the type of bracket you'd use to attach a cowbell.

Re: "Grooving Responsibly & Filling Creatively" lesson

Fantastic groove, great drumming, and is that your Zildjian Organic Ride?

Thanks,

Dutch

P.s. Just got to the 43rd minute so don't worry.... Great cymbal!

Re: New Score off eBay

Great kit, you'll love it. The snare is not an RC (Yamaha has long since stopped producing RC snares) but a Yamaha Sensitive Maple, which is a great snare in its own right.

Enjoy,

Re: Sold my stage customs, looking for mid range maple kit

I used to own a Yamaha stage custom bop kit in so-called raven black, which really was green as well. Funny that.

Re: Drumset with a +- 2000 Budget

With that budget, and assuming you're in Europe, you may want to have a look at Sonor's Prolite series as well.

Re: Looking For Best Drumset with cymbals!

A recent, current model Yamaha Stage Customs with used Zildjian Ks, like the Custom Hybrids, and you're set for anything.

Have fun!

Thanks I had never actually seen any of those before! The old Jimbo-one looks to have some quite specific features (shell size, number of lugs). The others, although all great looking (especially the...

Re: Yamaha signature snare drums

Sorry mate, I guess I could have phrased my original note a bit better. The ones that musiqman mentions (like the Ton Dijkman model) were never mentioned on the Yamaha website, and I'm curious as to...
