Re: Snare sound with Hot Rods?

Yeah, with rods I find that you pretty much have to rimshot to get any sort of decent snare sound. Of course, this kills the rods much quicker, so I generally go for plastic rods to get a bit more...

Re: Why do groupies like to borrow my sticks all the time?

As soon as I saw the thread topic, I knew someone had linked to that reddit post :D

Re: How do you hear it all?

As long as I get some kick drum, guitar and vocals I'm generally fine. The bass will rumble enough to be heard on stage, and the rest of the kit is plenty loud enough from where I sit.

Getting a...

Re: Playing Live With a Metronome

Well that's simply not true in any way, shape or form. I'm fairly sure you're just trolling now.

Keeping time is absolutely a skill that can be learned and improved by practising with a metronome...

Re: Show your drumming "battle scars"?

Don't have any pics, but here's a list of my various mishaps (at least the ones I can remember)

Reasonably common injuries, happen every now and then:

- Whack myself in the eye with a stick....

Re: Gurus played hard!

Was not expecting Jay Postones to be hiding behind that link. Very pleasantly surprised; he's an absolute monster player (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db-kdxlb9Mo).

Kit sounds amazing (of...

Re: Playing Live With a Metronome

I always play locked down to a click track, since we play with prerecorded and/or preprogrammed sequences live.

It's a double-edged sword. On one hand, it's nice to delegate the tempo to a...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

For what it's worth, he is 40 ;)
That clip is a couple of years old though.

Re: Forum demographic

Wouldn't be hard to set up a survey through one of the survey tool sites online. Someone should get on that :D

But since people are posting here:
Location: Bergen, Norway
Age:34

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

I think I've found the most pet peeves combined in one kit:

- The most obvious one is the hihat up in the stratosphere (must be a custom stand)
-...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

Kits that are too spaced out.

And also, awkward pedal angles and positions (http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122743)

Re: Mike Mangini's 'The Grid' DVD - does explain the shiver technique?

That's crazy talk! If I can't watch a YouTube video about a technique and then instantly play it when I try it, there's something wrong with the technique.

Re: Can you read sheet music?

I can read music, but it's been at least 15 years since I used it actively (playing piano and in marching bands). I'm guessing that I'm nowhere near as fluent as I used to be (especially if I were to...

Re: Matt Sorum

Great drummer, with a lot more chops than most people give him credit for.

He didn't; it was Axl's idea. Mike Portnoy (in one of his many social media snafus) commented on it once, and Matt...

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

Holy crap! As someone who mostly plays fly-in gigs, I can't even imagine trying to use that beast live :)

Looks very cool, I'd love to have a go on it.

Re: What would be your drummer nickname?

"Who". Because after gigs, people always seem to wonder "Who's that sweaty guy trying to look cool by hanging with that band that just played?"

The joys of sitting in the dark at the back of the...

Re: Mounting a Personal Mixer behind the Kit

Don't have any pics, but I use a Meinl Large Percussion table (clamped to either a cymbal stand or my hihat stand).

I've covered the tray in velcro, so the mixer and DI box I have there stays...

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

This project sounds a lot like a snare that I briefly played with; it was also made from a solid piece of steel pipe. It was one of the snares available in a studio where I recorded, but I ended up...

Re: Hi-Hats: Tight or loose????

Not super-sloshy, but it needs to have a fair bit of movement. If the clutch is too tight, it just feels and sounds really bad when playing them open.

Re: Drummers you thought sucked,but...

Few guys can hold down those pounding 4th/8th/16th note chugging bass line grooves like Michael Anthony. Before Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth, he was also by far the best singer in the band.

Re: Drummers who don't play/use a ride cymbal.

Keith Moon comes to mind. For much of his career, he didn't even use a hihat.

Re: Rick Allen (Def Leppard)

My mistake, I got the album titles mixed up. My point stands though, he still played the cymbals :-)

Didn't mean to make it sound like I contradicted you, just wanted to clarify your point.

Re: Rick Allen (Def Leppard)

Partly true. The cymbals are acoustic and played by Rick, but the majority of the drum tracks are programmed.

Rick just wasn't good enough with one arm at that point yet.

Re: Odd time signature songs for beginners

The main riff in "Times Like These" by Foo Fighters in in 7/4. Very easy to play along to.
