Re: All the things that go into drumming

Ignorant on his part... I'm sure he'd notice if you played through the songs with no dynamics, which are by far the hardest part.

If all he cares about is timing why doesn't he get a drum machine?

Re: Why bother with books?

Yes, I need to hear the pattern played which is why I watch drum videos to learn somethings on the kit. It would honestly be great if it was rock band/synthesia style with the notes rolling towards...

Re: Why bother with books?

I can't see the point of drum books either... I've always had a lot of trouble reading music (not from lack of trying) and as a result a drum book mind as well be gibberish to me. My mind struggles...

Re: Snare Rim Shot Issue

In this case offset means that the centre of the snare does not line up with the centre of the stand. It is off to the side or offset from the centre axis of the stand.

This doesn't happen to...

Re: Snare Rim Shot Issue

This

Doesn't matter how hard of a hitter you are or what feet you put on the snare stand the stand will walk a tiny bit everytime you hit the snare when it's offset. I noticed my snare will walk...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Well I pulled the trigger and got a set of Speed Cobras! I've had a speed cobra single pedal that I bought for $100s (barely used) so I'm fairly familiar with how these pedals will feel. There's so...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I stripped the threads on my Iron Cobras when adjusting the beater angle... looks like it's finally time to upgrade my pedals! I'll be repairing the old ones by tapping out the hole with a bigger...

Re: DW drums being "Overpriced"

I think DW drums are accurately priced for what you're getting. Custom instrument work is never cheap and even if you don't custom order there's a TON of work that goes into making drums. Once you...

Re: Where is the "best kit" thread :)

Could you imagine the uproar if you suggested that there's a best guitar?

Re: Where is the "best kit" thread :)

Do you want a punchy sound? Do you want something for a Jam space or something for playing live or just something for practicing at home?

Do you play metal, Jazz, rock, blues, country etc?

Do...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

I'm not comparing them from a complexity or method stand point. I was being critical of how much they improved over the course of three albums. While I hear Lars improving a bit over those first...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

I started listening to Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold at the same time during highschool and Lars sounded very bland compared to the Rev, so from the start I wasn't very impressed. I had bought City...

Re: Buddy Rich Playing Matched Grip!

I've learned a great deal from this forum and many others by reading and listening to people experienced in their fields. I've seen and participated in many great debates, I've been a moderator in...

Re: Buddy Rich Playing Matched Grip!

If you look at your arm and stick as a mechanical lever, you'll notice that when you hold the stick with traditional grip you're losing several inches of length as well as hitting further off axis....

Re: Buddy Rich Playing Matched Grip!

For those saying that traditional grip doesn't cause you to drop a shoulder or lean, why am I seeing about 90% of traditional grip players leaning towards their snare hand?

The first reason for...

So much for not conversing any further?

You're by far the most childish person I've seen on this forum. You've done your best to avoid providing a counter arguement to anything Les has said and...

Re: Any big name drummers ever do something to rub you the RIGHT way?

Not my story, but a story from my drum teacher who met Neil Peart when he was out on a bike ride. My teacher talked with him about life and biking, never even mentioning music once. He said it was a...

Re: Ever weighed your gear?

I haven't weighed my gear but my poor E46 M3 can still hold my entire drum kit and stands. Mind you it does end up squatting down pretty low on the suspension. I'd guess that the total weight is up...

Wow... That singer would have gotten more than a slap back if he did that to me.

LOL

Re: My Mapex Saturn Pro (Natural Finish)

Re: Some Pearl Vision Porn ;)

I love my Ruby Fade VBX kit, nice punchy sounding kit with high level hardware for the price. I'm planning to use mine for playing shows and keep the velvetone kit at home.

Great drums for the...
