Re: Tuning opinion...

If my drum is tuned high I like them the same, but on a medium tuning I prefer the reso tighter by a 3rd, 4th, 5th or an octave depending on my mood.

Re: Tinnitus and Magnesium Deficiency

You want 400 mg of magnesium a day. Top ten highest magnesium foods: Dark leafy greens, nuts and seeds, fish, beans and lentils, whole grains, avocados, low fat dairy, bananas, dried fruit, dark...

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

Those are great suggestions John. Thank you. The double backbeat thing would be good if I actually start off wrong, ala Charlie Watts in "Start Me Up". Dropping the backbeat and just leaving the bass...

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

Yea, like I'm going to tell Wayne Shorter to open his pie hole.

I get to play with a guy who I've waited 7 years to be in his band. He is so far and away the best musician I ever heard, the guy...

Re: PSA - Lubricate your P85.

IDK, I think a discussion on WD40 is pertinent. The thread is about lubricant. I would just use some 3 in 1 oil at the rojo arrow. Metal sliding against metal. I'd also lube the threads and the pivot...

Re: Can mods read PM's?

Ooooo classic burn! Pretty funny man. Pissed that I didn't think of it myself.

You wouldn't want me as a mod, I'd be reading all your PM's!

So some say yes, some say no. Not sure now.

Re: Can mods read PM's?

Great lol.

Yea, you got me, it was a dumb question lol.

If I were a mod and had access? Yea, I'd probably secretly read them, I have to be honest. Probably more entertaining than the forum...

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

Oh yea a smile goes a long way with damage control for a screw up. It's not good to be all serious onstage. The audience wants to see the band having fun. I don't like it when everybody is onstage...

Re: Can mods read PM's?

But are they read? That would be a bit like a peeping Tom, no? I want complete privacy.

Re: Jim Gordon

Hmm, I was under the impression that Jim was taking his meds no problem. It was just an impression, not a fact.

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

You're right Jim. But he starts it, it's his band. He just basically leaves out the triplet drum pick up and starts on the signature riff. The riff starts on beat one....and starts out on the highest...

Re: Pain on fingers - technique & control

I don't see how one can advance their grip without some form of pain. Certain small muscles have to get developed, tendons get stretched, there's no way around that AFAIK. You just have to...

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

If it stops within the first 10 seconds...because we didn't get off on the right foot....yea, you're right it still sucks lol.

TBH, it doesn't bother me. I just laugh it off, what else can you...

Re: Can you identify this Acrolite?

If the badge has rounded corners, and it looks like it does, it is from app. 1977 or later. Just how much later I can't say, but a look up of the serial number may help.

Re: PSA - Lubricate your P85.

The only light I can shed on WD 40 is what the WD and the 40 stands for.

Water Displacement, 40th attempt.

It was originally intended as a water displacement spray.
I can't speak...

Re: Drumming without shoes - caution

I play in socks. I've had bunions all my life. For me bunions are genetic, my Mom had the states biggest bunions. Not really, but they were enormous before her surgery. Mine never got worse or bigger...

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

You very much nailed it Anon. The guy is pushing 70, and is a dyed in the wool musician. Definitely an old school type of fellow.

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

Actually, I usually get it together right at the last moment and come in OK, but up until that point I'm trying to turn it around in my head, and freaking out a little, which kind of sucks. There is...

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

That's the thing, because I do put him in that elusive category. If I asked for a count or an accent or whatever....to me, it would be like saying, here's my limitations, I am not capable of anything...
