Re: Worst expensive snare you've ever owned?

To be fair, pretty much every manufacturer uses bolts of lesser quality inside their drums.

Re: Worst expensive snare you've ever owned?

What don't you like about it? I wish I had never gotten rid of mine. That was the best snare I ever owned, aside from the bolts loosening all the time.

Re: Worst expensive snare you've ever owned?

Fasteners. Bolts. Pretty much everything made of metal in their drums is of lesser quality, aside from the hoops and lugs. Regardless, they sound wonderful (usually). If you ever have to unscrew or...

Re: Metal drumming, help me choose between theses 3 sets

Metal requires two bass drums. Ideally they are 24" in diameter. That's just the rules.

Re: What to do?

Just play the Hybrids in public. Get them insured if you're afraid of getting them damaged. I think it's pretty rare to get drums scuffed beyond repair. Just don't let other drummers play them and...

Re: Finally! New Yamaha Recording Custom Wood Snares

Thin hoops doesn't mean "cheap" hoops. Vintage snare drums had thin triple and double flanged hoops. Many of them were made with brass too, as opposed to steel. Thicker flanged hoops have a certain...

Re: Finally! New Yamaha Recording Custom Wood Snares

Thin triple flange hoops have a great sound and feel. Don't rule them out. I would probably order a set of the aluminum die cast hoops too though. They're the perfect compromise between zinc die...

Re: Finally! New Yamaha Recording Custom Wood Snares

They're not going to be available until the new year.

New Tour Custom snares too! (https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/drums/ac_drums/snare_drums/tour-custom/index.html)

Re: Canopus Snare Cords

Fabric stretches. Using it to mount snare wires is fine only if you don't play with much dynamics. When striking the drum forcefully, the response changes dramatically, and not in a good way. Plastic...

Re: Finally! New Yamaha Recording Custom Wood Snares

Everything about the new Recording Custom line is superior to the previous ones. I had one of the old snares, and you're right, that strainer that extended beyond the shell with those plastic pieces...

Re: New Drums from Mapex

I predict that this new mount signals the official end of Mapex.

Re: Tony Williams

I've got both of those records. Great stuff. The Flanagan record has Tony playing some great trading solos too.

Re: If you could decide for your favorite manfacturer's standard sizes?

I want 14" and 15" toms (or floor toms) to have SEVEN lugs instead of eight.

Re: What brands holds their value the most

Why are you already thinking of selling? You should always buy what you want to play. If your taste is so unique that no one else would want it, so be it.

Re: Drumming leading to eviction

You work 60 hours a week, but can't afford to live on your own? Man, that is rough. I guess you'll have to find new roommates and then rent a rehearsal place. They shouldn't be too much by the hour....

Re: Gretsch recommendation

I've had a few Gretsch snares, and they sounded great. Those Lighting throwoffs would always strip on me though. They have actually redesigned them several times over the last ten years. They now use...

Re: Considering my “retirement” kit

You really should try and take some time to visit a store with a variety of drums for you to examine/play.

As long as everyone stops referring to Kanye West as a genius, I'll be okay.
