Re: Who "invented" the rock beat?

It always seemed to me to have happened gradually. Lots of beats had kick on 1&3 and snare on 2&4 (or slight derivations thereof), but the right hand was always swingin'. It was the straightening...

Re: Paiste 2002, B8 but why do they sound so good?

I don't know why Paiste 2002s sound so good, but I do know there is no better cymbal sound to my ear, and my addiction continues:

14" & 15" sound edge hi-hats

20" & 24" rides

16", 17", 18",...

Re: Hand Care

My fingers crack & bleed from playing drums in the Winter like you are talking about (not enough humidity in the air leads to dry skin on hands for me). I've tried the liquid bandage stuff and super...

Re: Anyone else dislike suspension mounts?

With Ludwig drums, I never liked the vibrabands (or any suspension mounts). What does work for me with Ludwigs is the Keystone tom bracket (instead of classic or modular) on all rack toms and floor...

Re: Who does this, really?

The compromise for me is to use padded bags, not hard cases. I like the Humes & Berg Galaxy & Tuxedo series - they both offer sufficient protection for gigging around town, especially if it's just...

Re: How long do I have to wait?

I expect to wait 8 -12 weeks for an order from Ludwig, based on 6-8 orders over the past 15 years. Sometimes I've been surprised and received some drums in about 7 weeks, but I really didn't care...

Great car for a drummer

I had a 1994 Toyota pick-up for 20 years and recently totaled it (no injuries, thankfully). That little truck was excellent for gigs and moving all drums and amps/PA, etc. There really are no...

Re: Two floor toms....

I have always used a 2nd floor tom on the right and prefer 16-18 over 14-16. Just feels right to me, never too much of a reach. And always 2 crashes to the right as well, 1 in front of each floor...

Re: The matching snare

I'm a big fan of matching snares if they are of high quality. I have Ludwig maple snares in Natural maple and red sparkle that match kits, and I like those snares as much as a Supra, black beauty,...

Re: About to order some Bonham sized Ludwigs Classic Maples. Got questions.

You're gonna be happy, big drums are great! I have never understood the complaint that they are a hassle to cart around. I've been carrying drums around since I was 8 years old (I'm 53 now), and...

Re: Ludwig Classic Maple Options

I think you're confusing Keystone brackets with the new Atlas mount bracket. The Keystone brackets are no larger than the Classics, they just touch the shell in 2 smaller spots than the Classics do....

Re: Ludwig Classic Maple Options

Go for keystone floor tom brackets. They're great, less contact with the shell, more resonance, less choke - nice look as well. Also use the Pearl floor tom floating feet on each leg & your floor...

Re: About to order some Bonham sized Ludwigs Classic Maples. Got questions.

Since Black Glass Glitter is no longer an option, consider Natural Maple. I have a Ludwig Classic Maple kit in Natural Maple from 1999 and it is beautiful: 16x26, 12x14, 16x16, 16x18, with a...

Re: Thinking about buying a Ludwig Vistalite kit. Thoughts?

If I didn't already have a set of Ludwig Vistalites, I would definitely buy that kit for $1600. Great sounding drums at a good price. You might get him to come down to $1500 - I have amber, but I...

Re: "Nobody cares about the drummer, except for the Rush guy."

There are women that are very attracted to drummers at a live show. Typically, you'd think the women would go for the lead singer or guitarist up front, but that is not always the case. I am very...

Re: What is the best modern Ludwig Kit that creates Bonham's sound?

He also played a 12x14 rack tom on his Ludwig natural maple kit in 1969. It might be a 12x15, though, I've never really been sure.

Re: Cold Feet?

Another option you could try is wearing Chuck Taylor All-Stars, hi-top or lo-top. The difference from other shoes is that Chucks have no arch support- the footbed is totally flat, which feels great...

Re: 1960's Gretsch kit

Why is that? Why 18" or 20" bass drum? If you're not using a taxi to get your drums to a gig (the original reason for small bass drums), why wouldn't you want to have a bass drum with a real bass...

Re: recommendations for new set

I saw a beautiful Ludwig Epic kit in Mahogany burst in your price range today at Atlanta Pro Percussion. It was 10-12-14-16-24 with nickel hardware and a matching snare for $795 - it was beautiful,...

Re: anyone order from sweetwater?

Make sure to compare Sweetwater's drum head prices with samash.com. Sam Ash has great prices on all the Remo heads I like. I found the constant calls from sales associates at Sweetwater to be...

Re: DW Finishply

I received a new 16x18 Red Sparkle floor tom a few days ago from Ludwig (In less than 6 weeks!). It has 2 seams and I was not surprised - I think that's standard for 18" and up.

I also got a...

Re: DW Floor Tom size advice

15"x14" also a great floor tom size. 10-12-15 would be a nice pitch spread.

Re: Losing that second crash cymbal

I can appreciate the 2 cymbal only approach, but I still want 3 crashes :-), 1 on the hi hat side and 2 on the ride side with the 2 floor toms = happy family. I really like having 3 pitch options...

Re: The G.A.S is returning

Give in to the GAS. Must purchase... :-)

I gave in recently and ordered 22" & 24" Paiste 2002 crash cymbals. They are going to be huge, beautiful, and sound glorious!
