Re: Who uses Moongel?

I always lose my gels... I use a DrumClip on my snare now, easy to deal with and can stay on forever. I'll use tape on the toms whenever I need it (I rarely do though).

Re: Making a kit

Yup.

I assembled my kit, having ordered the shells drilled, finished, and edged from Terry Thompson at Daville Drumworks, the lugs from Ego Drum Supply, and so on and so forth. It cost me about...

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

Inspiring words from Watso! I agree wholeheartedly, slowing down the playback speed and really digging into a well-crafted drum part is often a great exercise. Plus, there's nothing to lose from...

Re: No love for 20" bassdrums?

Yup.

Unfortunately the educated Drummerworld crowd is not very indicative of the wider drum world :) 22s are fine, I suppose, for most people, and they're what the industry is currently "on". I do...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Could respond. Won't.

Good to note for the future- I think y'all got the concept I was referring to anyways.

Re: Thrash Drumming HiHat/Ride Speed

Yeah, it's more of a visual thing. Very few people is going to meaningfully notice the ride cymbal's sound happening concurrently with the snare drum unless you have a very quiet snare drum :) The...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Yup.

Eat me. Insensitivity is the privilege of people who don't have to deal with a world designed to disenfranchise and destroy them. Do you know how much depressing shit I have to deal with...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Open the door because you're a nice person. Chivalry is horsecrap, but it doesn't mean you can't be a nice person.

This is an issue of misogyny, which is a cultural construction designed to...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Hell yeah. There's an article going around about an MTV study (right??) that many people, millennials specifically, believe they're "colorblind" and don't want to talk about race- what a crock....

Re: Solid shell snare?

Uh...
Anyways, Andy is saying that the term "solid" is so broad a term that it's not very helpful, especially when discussing specific sound characteristics as we are here.

I'm assuming "vertical...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Absolutely, Madge, I was going to say iceberg as well!

Also, there's a difference between a man calling a woman a "girl" and a woman self-identifying herself with that term.

Again, totally...

Re: Small and easy to transport drum kit

I played a set with the stock heads at PASIC this past weekend and it sounded pretty good- they were tuned quite well. They might not be the best to gig with, and the toms are going to sound pretty...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

She can try, but I think I speak for all the women on this forum when I say that it's not unreasonable to ask that everybody exercise their right to ridicule the users of "female drummer" or whatever...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Also, racism is the systematic use of privilege to disenfranchise those less privileged than oneself- 'reverse racism' against white people is not a meaningful phenomena in white-dominated societies...

I'm going to be there. Unfortunately it'll be the day after Florian's clinic, but good luck on that anyways!

Re: Jojo Mayer

Jojo's project, Nerve, just put out their fifth EP. I really should end up buying one of these because I have very positive first impressions :)

Re: problems with tremolos on xhylaphone

The important thing to understand is that a xylophone mallet, or any mallet really, reacts in a very different way from any stick. Sticks have a balance point close to the center, or the hands, while...

Re: Jazz vs. Metal video

God, I hate this video. The metal drummer plays the most stock licks imaginable, and the jazz drummer does an actual solo, and somehow this is an amusing parable? Nah. The flipside of this would be...

Re: Snare size for ghost notes

Oh yeah, one more thing- the consensus seems to be that deep snare beds help with offering more snare articulation, which might help with the low volume response Smooth was talking about. You might...

Re: PDP Bubinga/Maple/Bubinga Snare

It's not exactly a Black Beauty, is it?

20 plies, probably very focused and sort of high-pitched depending on the thickness of the plies. Funny that the name sort of implies 2/3 bubinga content...

Re: Snare size for ghost notes

Folks, just because the OP has to play the ghost notes, does not mean that they can disregard the drum design. These things are not mutually exclusive.

The depth does have more of an effect on...

I went full ambidextrous, open-handed several months ago, though I haven't been able to do much lately since I'm now in college & don't care to rejigger the drumset every time. Hi-hat height is the...

Re: 20" Bass Drum Dampening? (New Catalina Club)

I'd say replace the UT heads ASAP. I've never heard a good word about them- they're Remo's 'bargain' version of their regular heads, made in Taiwan. And don't worry about the 20" size, it'll sound...
