Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

People who make fun of shallow toms and smaller kicks need to remember that not everyone is as tall as they are, and might need to compromise depth and low end sound just to be able to play at all. :(

Re: songs with leading toms

Quite a lot of Marilyn Manson's stuff. The Beautiful People is a good example.

Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

I once had the same problem when a song went into a sort of half-time shuffle feel for the bridge, the keyboardist didn't understand. And god help me if I counted off "one-n-two-n-THREE-n-four-n".

Re: Names of the drums and cymbals - origins? etymology

Vic Firth has a good Drumset/Drumming History video series on Youtube, I believe.

I'm just gonna say most of Dream Theater's stuff.

Deep toms are awesome unless you are really short ;D

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

In a set up like 10, 13, 16, they'd be fine but I hate when kits are 10, 12, 13, with 14 and 16 floors. As big and clunky as 13's are for rack toms, I'd rather just have a slightly shallow 14" rack...

Re: What are your favourite recorded drumsounds?

The snare on Roundabout is pretty sexy.

Re: Small and easy to transport drum kit

+1 for the Taye Go-Kit.

Also, Pearl has the... Rhythm Traveler? Something like that, very shallow concert toms, small snare, 18x6 kick. Sounds pretty good when I played one once.

Re: Is it too late to start drumming to a certain level?

Niel Peart didn't start mega early ( I don't think), and Meytal Cohen started in her late teens. You'll just have to practice A LOT. :)

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Just because it's a punk-rock song, doesn't mean you have to ride a crash.

Re: Tuning to pitches...yes? no?

My toms are tuned roughly to a D chord. :)

Re: Micing my kit with 3 mics

I'd say kick, snare, overhead. But I'm no sound guy.

Re: My Bass Drum Is Bigger Than Yours

Maybe use roto or piccolo toms? haha. They'd sound weak but you'd be able to hit them.

Re: In Search of Higher Pitched Sounds...

Unfortunately, I'm looking to add 2 toms and my budget doesn't allow for 2 DW piccolo toms :( They sound rad though. I'm heavily leaning toward the Tamas but I'm still not sure. I've even toyed with...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I love the dead/boxy sound of 70's drum recordings.

Re: What do you think about Casey Cooper (COOP3RDRUMM3R)

I can't place why... but he annoys me. Shows off too much, like when Taylor Swift "got down" while playing her song at the Grammys, I'm just like... "oh... You're cool... NAHT!".

Meytal Cohen is...

Re: In Search of Higher Pitched Sounds...

Yes. I've been looking at the Tamas. I know a tad of Japanese which came in handy here haha. Unfortunately, none of the stores around my way carry the Tama mini tymps and I'm afraid I may not care...

In Search of Higher Pitched Sounds...

With fun-fun tax refund season on its way, I'm thinking of treating myself to some new/upgraded gear. I'd really like to add 6" and 8" toms to my setup, however, my budget doesn't allow me to get...

Re: Rattle on 12" Catalina tom

I had this issue, for me it was that the tom was mounted on a cymbal stand and it was vibrating a washer.
