Premier Snare Info

Hi guys,

Can anyone ID what era the snare I have is from?

As far as I know, it's the 1036 (10 lug, chromed steel). It's 14"x7".

This is not my site, but the badge, lugs and throwoff are the...

Re: MP3 Metronome Tracks for your iPod

Your sarcasm isn't needed. Show some respect and don't act like a snob.

Considering how inexpensive metronomes are and how cumbersome having to flip through an MP3 player would be.. I'd pay for...

Re: Street Drumming

Looks cool and good job. I think this is a situation where stick tricks would be pretty handy. What kind of festival/event is this?

Injury & Advice

Hey everyone,

So I'll cut to the chase.. I recently tore my rotator cuff, and I have to say that it really sucks! I won't get into how, but it's definitely limiting my movement a lot. Anyways,...

Re: Shoeless heel down players, heel pain?

I've got a DW 5000 and I play in socks. Just today I was having this problem! I think you have a good solution, but I wouldn't like to permanently glue something to my pedal. I might consider...

Re: The Rhythm Shift Timing Exercise

I definitely include this in my practice all the time. Subdivisions are so key to what we do, and this really ingrains them. Throwing in accent patterns is fun, too.

Re: Slowing Down Video Clips

iMovie does it for macs, though I can't say it's as simple/easy as it could be.

Re: How can I make this work on Double Bass

Well, 30 years is a long time, but it's a good thing you're back to it! I'll address a few things first before I try answering your question:

- Burying the beater is somewhat controversial. ...

Re: Virgin drum plates

Plates do both, but I'd say they're mostly for aesthetics. Sticking a marble in that hole achieves the same thing. I'd try that if it's just temporary.

Re: Slide V's Heel Toe Bass Drum Technique

I think it's just a matter of preference.. It might seem weird, but I like slide for grooving, anything with a triplet feel, fills, and playing more than one double in a row. I use heel-toe for...

Re: Double Bass Technique

I wanted to chime in here to say that heel-toe doesn't actually require your heel to strike the pedal.

It's a matter of practice, either way. If you lack endurance, you'll gain it in time. If...

Re: problem with New Gretsch catilina Maples

I believe the problem is that his rims are too big (or maybe oval, but I doubt that). I've never had this problem, but it sounds like it's being resolved. In the meantime.. there's not a lot you...

Re: Double bass flams, left right or right left?

Well I know what a flam is. And I know what double bass is. So to clarify, you mean playing a flam with a double bass pedal, correct?

I'm a single pedal guy, but that doesn't stop me from...

Re: Practice routines?

Play alongs are a lot of fun, but transcription is pretty important, as well. I'm assuming you practice everything with a metronome (if not, definitely try to work it into many parts of your...

Re: Metal Snare

I know the basic sound qualities of steel/birch. My birch snare is pretty bright, but still has a lot of low end punch to it. I get that the steel will be more ringy, louder, and brighter.. I'm...

Re: Any tips on how to learn the drum track in a song?

Fills can be tough. Try to listen to the fill and determine when notes are being played, and when there are rests. Write this down. From there.. just listen to it over and over until you can...

Re: Metal Snare

Sorry, I thought I had written it's a Premier 2000. Steel shell, should be about 14 x 5. And I'm using a birch 14 x 5.5 snare, with a 7.2mm, 6-ply shell currently.

Edit: Sorry, it's not the...

Metal Snare

I'm possibly buying a 10-20 year old Premier chrome snare soon.. The problem is that it is basically the same dimensions as my current (wood) snare. I haven't had much experience with metal...

Re: Any tips on how to learn the drum track in a song?

If you could elaborate at all on your process, that would be great.

If you are stumbling because you know what to play, but are having trouble figuring out which hands to play it with, or the...
