Re: Used intermediate birch kit - Pacific vs. Premier vs. Mapex vs. ?

I have a set of Premier XPK that I played for the last 20 years or so before getting a DW maple kit. The hardware is still like new. I've always been happy with those drums. Now my son plays it.

Re: Kick drum and/or R foot problems

Hi guys, wanted to give another update on this, just to close the loop. Hopefully this information will help someone else in the future.

When I saw my drum instructor, he watched me play and said...

Re: Which Bassist would you hire?

This is fun to think about. Knowing what kind of music is being recorded would point me towards different people, but assuming it is rock or modern jazz...

Re: How to mic bass drum on a budget?

PDPSabianGuy,
I would suggest going to your local Lowe's or Home Depot and buying a pair of 3M Peltor hearing protector earmuffs (http://amzn.com/B00009LI4K). I use them for home practice as well...

Kick drum on 2 and 4

When I was learning to play rock music on the drum kit when I was younger, I was taught that the bass drum goes on 1 and 3, and the snare goes on 2 and 4, more or less. So for many years I've been...

Re: Any pre gig routine?

I like to just warm up on a practice pad, and be by myself to go over things in my head. I have a lot of nervous energy before we start, and I can't talk to anybody. I like to sit, relax and...

Re: Playing live, with a click

It's possible to play with a click and not sound rigid. The ones that sound rigid are the ones that get ahead or behind the click constantly and are making small adjustments throughout the song. ...

Re: Your favourite drum fills of all time, EVER!

I love Mark Brzezicki's drumming with The Cult. One of my favorite fills is on the song "Love" @ 3:59. It pumps me up every time.

That triplet fill on the toms in Tom Sawyer @ 3:22 on the studio...

Re: Playing live, with a click

Yeah Neil is a drumming robot. I read an interview with Geddy once where he said that Neil would practice his drum parts at home, go into the studio, nail it on the first take, then pack up his...

Re: Playing live, with a click

It's pretty standard technology now. And that could be what Rush does to have their tracks sync'd with Neil even when he doesn't use a click. Pretty much every DAW software I know of has a...

Re: My live backing track/click setup

I'm still learning the nuts and bolts of MainStage at this point, so I haven't had a chance to use it yet with my band. So far there doesn't seem to be too much latency, but in the worst case, I can...

Re: Playing live, with a click

I think if you practice with it enough, it won't take your attention away from the music. If you use it only occasionally, then you will have to give it a lot of your attention because it is not...

Re: Playing live, with a click

I am starting to use a click more and more with my band. Once a song starts, I can keep very steady time without it, but I sometimes have trouble finding the correct tempo to start the song. So the...

My live backing track/click setup

For the last month or so, I've been trying to find a good way to play backing tracks, percussion loops, and sound effects live, while using in-ear monitors running a click track. It has been...

Re: learning a song (comfortably numb)

When you start to study drum parts, especially for music other than pop rock, you'll find that there is not always a repeating pattern. Sometimes the drummers improvise. So there might not be a...

Re: Thinking of adding a tom - what size?

Haha, yes, both would be ideal. Unfortunately, DW add-on toms are kind of expensive, which is why I thought I'd just start with one.

Anyway, you're right, it's more for my own enjoyment than the...

Thinking of adding a tom - what size?

Hi guys!

I have a DW Collector's with 10" and 12" rack toms, and a 16" floor tom. I've been thinking of adding another tom to my kit. A 14" seems like a logical choice, but to be honest, I don't...

Re: My 6 Year Old And Drums? / Drum Kit under $140?

I found a Ludwig Jr. kit for my son on Craigslist for $80. They actually sound pretty good and the hardware is decent. The tom holders have memory locks.

Re: Trying to decide Snare

I just got a 14x8 maple Black Panther, and I think it's a great all around snare. You can tune it to just about any sound you need.

Re: what are the basics ?

+1

Couldn't agree more. Good time is the ticket for admission. Without that, chops don't mean squat.
