I'd say toss up between the Pearl and the Yamaha.. In my opinion, the Catalina is completely over-rated just because it has the Gretch name on it. Don't get me wrong, other Gretch stuff is fine, but...

I sure as hell hope that at $4000, his Starclassic is either a foreign price or a 14 piece with 10 cymbals.. OMFG.. I almost choked when I just read $4000 for a Starclassic..

I've got 3 letters for you.. PDP... at $800 for a 7 piece Maple, brand new (and in a lacquer finish, not a wrap), NOT an entry level kit and I would venture to say probably matches most of the kits...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... so the guy that was selling this floater was selling it with a Pearl M80 and a snare stand for $150. It was gone the same evening I posted this thread.. Now the same drum is up...

I honestly can't say I miss my old CB500 5 pc kit. I do however miss my Paiste 502 crash that my folks bought me for Christmas.. I loved that cymbal!

Yikes, besides the soapy water trick mentioned above, if it's only on the hoop and in a small spot, perhaps you can just loosen the hoop up and spin the painted area to the bottom where you wont see...
