Re: Ludwig Club Date NOT discontinued

Welcome Boneless- make sure the washer that they give you is on the OUTSIDE of the metal teeth. The spring goes inside (but you don't really need it) and the washer goes on the outside right before...

Re: DW, the Scientology of drum companies?

My opinion is that all the higher end drums from the major companies are going to sound great with the right heads and tuning. it has been discussed here before that even mid-line kits from most...

Re: Worth rims mounting?

I took the rims type mounts off my toms and went with the Ludwig Atlas mounts so I could see more of the shell. The wrap around mounts covered a lot of the lacquered shell, especially on the 10" tom....

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

Whenever I speak to a stringed instrument player ( bass or guitar), they say the same thing about how it is equally uncomfortable for them to play out of someone else's rig. I see the point about...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I get it on the most important thing being the snare-kick-hat triangle.
My issue mostly with this set was the height of the cymbals.
if the provided kit is a "standard" set up (I always think...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I did get the idea to buy a china cymbal from this experience- I never had one, but using his, I noticed that they really cut through the mix. Actually fits in well with the classic rock that we...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

The band that we opened for was an 80's hair metal cover band. There seem to be a few of these popping up here in Southern New England. I guess the 40-50 year olds are reliving their youth.
Anyway-...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I did bring my hat stand, seat, snare, and cymbals, as well as my pedal.
I ended up using my seat and bass pedal.
Cymbal adjustability was limited by the mike placement on the toms. I guess some...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

here is a sample of the gig. The tom angle actually looks reasonable from here, but on my set up you cannot see the bottom heads. I think you can kind of see that I am reaching for the cymbals,...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I did the gig last night. it went off well-even though it was a fish-out-of-water gig in that we were opening for an 80's hair metal band. We managed to get some of the leather clad peroxide-blondes...

Re: Bizare Ludwig Shell, help!

I have a set of early 90's Ludwigs that I bought new at a small music store. They were special ordered and the customer could not pay for them after they came in. I was told they were Super Classics....

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

Larry, I already suggested that, but the club is sticking to the "one drum set" rule.

I have the other guys ph # and will call him to see what's what.
Yes the triangle of bass pedal, snare, and...

Re: Loud drums

all the Ludwig dealers around here have told me that the keystone drums are louder than the classic maple and legacy shells. I have not played them, but that seems to be the 'marketing" line for the...

What did you find to be a good sounding head on the club dates?

Have you tried different types- single vs two ply etc?

Any experience would be appreciated.

Re: Ludwig Club Date NOT discontinued

I ordered a downbeat in WMP last week. Should be in soon.

Anyone who owns the "new" clubdates- what heads have you found to sound good on this set?
I usually go with a 2-ply Aquarian response 2...

Re: The worst gig of my life

Wow, reading all the posts it is clear a nerve was struck.

I would always rather use my kit. I play in a cover band, so we don't do as many multi-band gigs as the original music bands....

Re: Over exuberance - a time & a place?

I almost always do a hand cross-over bass drum triplet roll around the kit ending to "Born to be Wild". We usually do that song to end the night, so I have nothing to lose at that point...
