If an earthquake occurred in my vicinity I would without hesitation Duck and Cover underneath my nearest drum kit and I would play the bass drum as loud as I could in an effort to ward of the forces...

Re: Cheap vs expensive kits

The main things that define the sound of drums are Heads, Tuning, Bearing Edges, and Hoops.
Most inexpensive kits have thin triple flanged hoops and sharp 45 degree bearings edges. They all sound...

Re: Keep or not

Heat compression means that the shell was cured with heat in a press during construction. All ply shells are cured in a similar fashion.

Re: Unboxing Videos!

I admit that I am also a big fan of these videos. Even a well sponsored pro drummer is like a kid at Christmas in these videos when he opens the new drums.

Re: Has Anyone Installed the DW Tom Mount Themselves?

I installed the same dw track mount for a bass drum lift that dw makes. The track is super sturdy and the slide-in mount stays locked where you set it. You won't have any issues with it for mounting...

Re: Noise when recording/playing kick drum

Have you tried eliminating the mic mount and laying the mic on a pillow inside the drum to see if the mount is the issue. That seems like the only thing that you haven't tried. You may have to go...

Re: open close technique for single stroke roll exercise

Both techniques are valid. My advice is to take what you can from all exercises that you encounter and try to get what you can from them. I also advise that you revisit exercises and drills...
