Re: What is your Go To gigging Snare Drum ?

I have 3 I like to gig with, based on whatever mood I'm in. The band I'm playing with factors in there too. They are all 14 x7 drums... ash, walnut and padauk. I have a 14 x 6.5 segmented maple snare...

Re: How do you feel during your drum lessons?

I apologize if the following is totally off the mark.

If you can't do the lesson for your teacher but can do it alone, that is a reliable indicator that you are creating the blockages. It sounds...

Re: The Clock

As far as I can tell, you're talking about studying time.

Here's what helped me the most:

Re: How do you feel during your drum lessons?

If you don't understand something, by all means, ask for clarification. If you're not getting it, and the teacher isn't picking up on that, don't go any further until you're clear. Admitting I...

Re: Shell Bank

I went that route too. I have 10,12,13,14,16,18 toms...20 and 22 bass drum. That gives me a bop kit and a "regular" sized kit, plus an 18" floor that stays home on my recording kit.

As long as you...

Re: Why are drummers/musicians/music-listeners so defensive online?

Guilty. Sometimes I'm in a down mood and negative comes out. Doesn't make it right. I blame it on the human part in me.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I have to say, compared to maple, birch, basswood, beechwood, walnut has a distinctive tone all it's own. I love my walnut snare, it would be the one I would save from a burning house. I think. That...

Re: Anybody like big bass drums?

I wonder what percentage of drummers use that.

Not quite the same as having the toms recessed into the BD shell, but pretty close.

Re: Anybody like big bass drums?

That's a pretty cool idea Pete. Recess the toms inside the bass drum. The toms would get an extra boost by utilizing the BD shell, and the bass drum has 2 or 4 extra heads to excite.

Someone had...

Re: The jazz ride pattern

You guys are so far ahead of me. I'm not even at square one, and have nothing in my arsenal. I can do the quarter note only exercise. I can play the JRP. I don't know how good I do it. It feels OK...

Re: The jazz ride pattern

I'm not putting myself in a box. Isn't that the jazz thing to say :)

You said it, I really need to listen to it as much as I can. I'll check back in 10 years or so :)

Meanwhile I'll try playing...

Re: The jazz ride pattern

Wow I haven't played along to a record for probably 10 years. I was just trying to play the JRP alone. Kills 2 birds with one drumstick because I can practice my JRP and absorb jazz stuff I never...

Thanks for the links, I do appreciate it. I will check them out, but I'm actually looking for personal experiences. Again, thanks.

Re: In the studio

Drums are just placeholders. There's an interesting take. What happens when the drums drop out? The whole place collapses. So yea, we hold the place up, like the frame of a house.

If it were me in...

Re: Bd size options / experience

What Martin said.

Thanks for saving me 10 minutes.

20 x 14 would be my suggestion.

Re: Just an observation

One thing that is radically different today than when I was a kid was the great unifying factor, radio. The Top 40 then appealed to the great majority. Now you have to search to find the good stuff...

Right? 3 piece is about as easy as it gets.

How? Ego of course.

Perhaps everybody can take a copy and mix it down the way they want. Don't compare, that would be a pissing match. Everybody...
