Re: Using a pillow as a practice pad...do YOU do it?

Re: Using a pillow as a practice pad...do YOU do it?

While I understand where you're coming from learning to play a "closed" double stroke roll would be easier to start off with. Pillow practice will lead to not getting the right feel and sound out of...

Re: Stick Trajectory

The trajectory issue went away for me as my fulcrum developed. A great exercise is to strike the pad and let the stick rebound 2-3 additional times before your back fingers snap up the stick.
Take...

Re: I had to have it!

Oh my!!!!!!

The tone from these drums is unreal, stock heads still and I'm amazed!

The cleanest sounding drums I have, I'm so happy.

I have the tension on my toms up more than usual and...

I'm so glad you guys love the finish as much as I do.

Re: I had to have it!

I might keep the stock heads on for now but I'm assuming the emperors or g2 will be a nice improvement over the stock heads?

Re: I had to have it!

Wow...thanks everyone. I thought I might have more dislikes on the finish but looks like we have similar tastes :-)

Head recommendations?? I usually use emperor or G2 clear heads on my kits, I'm...

Re: I had to have it!

The shorter depth toms will cut out a little sooner than square sizes would, meaning a faster note.

I'm more concerned how the drums will sound to me first, audience second. If I feel inspired it...

Re: I had to have it!

I disagree

I don't see how it wouldn't make a difference, if that we're the case everyone's high end shells would have character without hardware and hoops/heads installed. Once installed they...

Re: I had to have it!

The diameter of the floor toms are normal 14" and 16" , the depth of them is shorter and they are referred to as (f.a.s.t) tom sizes. It's actually quite normal these days. I just bought the drums...

Re: I had to have it!

Thanks Mary :-)

I really like the satin hardware against the finish but we all have different tastes, might be boring if we all liked the same things lol.

What did you mean about floor...

Sound differences between different brand shells

Shopping for a kit and I've been curious about how some higher end shells compare to each other from different manufacturers and thought some of you might have some experience and details to offer.

Re: New Ludwig Snare drum.....How Round?

I think 1/8" difference between lugs is out of round but on here many will say it's fine.

Round to me means no difference measuring between lugs, most of my drums are out of round by a little(1/8"...

Re: How to bring energy into your playing?

Body movement or head bobbing to the quarter note helps drive the groove and I think gives a good energy vibe.

Dancing behind the kit can be infectious.

Obviously the better your timing,...

I have some iem's but have yet to use them. I don't know what I'm doing with them and scared that I could get feedback coming through them and that could cause serious hearing damage. Hard to know...

Re: Speaking of tuning....

Larry...no question that I like how your toms sound in the recording you posted.

What I don't know is how tuning for maximum resonance will blend with hard rock?

The other...

Re: What is your main snare you gig with, and your back up snare?

Well said Larry! Recently my band mates heard another drummers snare from another band who tunes his snare very loose and they love it. I like it too but the feel sucks for quiet diddles unless...
