Re: The "Jimi Hendrix of drums"

A search brings up Atma Anur (http://k3music.com/en/biography/atma-anur/) and a quote from Neal Schon.

Re: Anyone a member of The Drum Channel??

I am and have been for some time. It's an extraordinary amount of content from marquee names.

Re: Jojo Mayer: Secret Weapons Part 2

No, very few exercises. Much like Part 1. Lots of explanation and demonstration, very clear, well done, but very few exercises.

Re: How to hang a cymbal for display?

I just used a short loop of string and a picture hanger wall hook. One end of the string loop goes over the wall hook. The other end of the string loop goes through the cymbal hold. Then you just...

Re: Drummer diagnosed with musician's dystonia

Me too. I'm getting a referral to a neurologist who specializes in musician's dystonia (one of the nice things about living in Boston). I'll let you know what I find out. By the way, for my case,...

Drum Fill Friday quiz

Anyone seen or tried these quizzes from NPR (http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/145504087/drum-fill-friday)? I just discovered them today. Tried today's quiz, did horribly, just 1 out of 5. Last...

Re: YES summer tour

I guess it's not enough to coax Bill Bruford out of retirement, though.

Re: Levon Helm Fans

Here here! I have my "Keep it goin'" t-shirt (http://www.levonhelm.com/keep_it_goin.htm). I wear it often, listen, and remember. And if we're going to mention movie roles, how about "Coal Miner's...

Re: Stick Control - How even is even?

I played this game with my instructor some months ago. He would close his eyes while I played a line from Stick Control (one of the first 12 lines, page 5), and he would try to guess which one I was...

Re: Robotic Prosthesis Turns Drummer into a Three-Armed Cyborg

I'm guessing that lots of the hype ("three-arm cyborg") is coming from the press, not the researcher himself. The researcher is probably trying to do good and may in fact be highly experienced with...

Re: Beginner and older...

I'm 49 (damn near 50) and started about 2 years ago. Also with no prior music experience. Certainly I agree with the advice about getting a teacher. Sometimes it's frustrating to see youngsters...

Dangerous Illusions

You all have probably seen the ads for this novel, Dangerous Illusions, all over various drumming websites. I finally succumbed. I can't say as I would recommend it for the plot or character...

Re: Paul Simon and Sting

I saw that Vinnie is with Sting per usual, and that alone would be reason enough to go to the show. Haven't heard anything about Paul Simon. I have been following Gadd, and he's made no mention of...

Re: Practicing rudiments without a pad or metronome. Bad idea?

Maybe Drumpants (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1400947701/drumpants-an-entire-band-in-your-pocket?ref=live). I think they'll have a built-in metronome too.

Re: Comprehensive drum book.

There are a couple of books that fit that description perfectly. They're the "fresh approach" books by Mark Wessels. They're only available on his website (http://www.mwpublications.com). Probably...

Wow, outstanding video. I hadn't seen that one before, and I follow Daniel's work pretty closely. Thanks so much for posting!

Re: Wikidrummers

Looks like this video has been posted in a bunch of places. The idea that drums (any acoustic instrument, really) sound different in different environments isn't exactly new, but I think that these...

Re: My 6 Year Old And Drums? / Drum Kit under $140?

I got a Sonor Safari for my 6-year-old, and it's perfect. A bit more expensive, but it does have good resale value. I'm told, for example, that they're very popular with the Berklee students.

Re: Beware of Mr. Baker

I did see it and would recommend it. It's interesting and entertaining. But I have to say that it's hard to watch at times. Someone used the word "abrasive" to describe him, and I can't think of a...
