Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

Here is my most recent acquisition. This is a Canopus maple snare in a zebrawood finish. It is one of only 15 made. I picked it up at the Canopus store in Tokyo this summer. It's an amazing shop...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Neal,

What a great looking kit! I'm envious! Nice!

Re: DW Design Series

I own this kit and the 12" doesn't choke out dynamically. Nor do they sound "thin" in terms of tone. Actually, it's a great sounding kit. I put Acquarian Modern Vintage III heads on and they sound...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

I really only play jazz. I don't listen to rock and, obviously, don't play it. So other than "loud" I have no idea what would be necessary for it to be versatile enough to use for rock. I'm just...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

I said I would post a few more thoughts after my first gig with the FF kit. I suppose I do this at my own risk, as no doubt the DW haters will respond by saying that anything positive I might write...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

I think MyDentity is one of the most stupid names I've ever heard for, well, anything. Whenever I hear it, I think of George McFly saying, "you are my density." And, yes, I do take my drums...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Thanks. I'm glad a few people actually understood what I was getting at. For some reason when someone makes a positive comment about DW, a lot of people assume that they are criticizing every other...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

As long as you don't make my mistake and buy a DW kit you should be fine.

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Thanks Mongrel. I'm glad someone found the review useful. I agree on the price/quality relationship. When you look at a lot of very expensive kits, what you are paying for is the finish and other...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

And I don't think everyone likes BMWs or sees them as the best car. It was just an example. I could have said Cadillac, Rolls Royce, Porsche, Jaguar. Whatever. I just happen to drive a BMW so...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

I take your point, Bo. I'm not saying that DWs are more musical than any other brand. What I am saying is to my ear, this particular drum set is very musical. I like the way it sounds. I'm not...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Just a quick note for clarity in case someone is interested in this kit. The wrap isn't really WMP. It's an onyx and they call it White Onyx. The pattern is different from WMP, although it looks...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Read more carefully, Artstar. I didn't put the FF kit there, I put DW there. DW has a lot in common with BMW and Apple. It makes great products that are marketed well.

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

I'm not an anything guy. I've had a lot of different drum sets and I have no brand loyalty. I have quality loyalty. Quality = both sound quality and construction. If it sounds good to my ears (and...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

The real question is, do I care who makes the Frequent Flyer? Answer = no. They sound great. If little elves from the north pole make it, that's fine with me. As for the quotation, you are...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Meaning high end and something people like to be seen using. And like BMW, DW makes fantastic products.

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

So what you are saying, Bo, is that it is about brand name. But rather than being seen with the the BMW brand like DW, it's about being seen with the cool brand that only a drummer would know about....

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Well, I've owned Hondas and now own a BMW. The BMW is vastly better. No comparison. And comparing a Kia and a BMW (or even a Honda), well all I can say is I see a lot of Kias at the end of tow...

Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

Sure thing. But serviceable and good are two different things. I'm not a fan of serviceable on gigs--I want my drums to sound the best possible. I can put different heads on a bad drum, tune it...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Yes, I do. This kit fits into a nice niche. It's not cheap and low-end like quite a few of the smaller, light kits. It is a kit with a sound I feel comfortable taking on gigs, but it isn't so...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

YEs, they are 2.3mm. My impressions of the snare are good. I've only played it a little, but so far, after getting the right head on the batter side, I think it sounds pretty good. It is fairly...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Hmm. I would put the big hoo-hah at their sound. They sound great. Also, the hardware is rather light--tom legs are aluminum, for example, and the BD spurs are very simple. If you go to the DW...

DW Frequent Flyer Kit

I've just purchased one of the first DW Design Series Frequent Flyer kits and thought I would offer my initial thoughts on the kit. It has a 12 x 20 bass drum, 11 x 14 floor tom, and 8 x 12 tom tom...
