Re: Band Director too unpredictble with scheduling. Similar experiences?

Well, things went well. We have another performance in about 45 minutes.
Jazz band only played one song though. Wish me luck. We're adding in the other two (which are a little unrehearsed) but...

Band Director too unpredictble with scheduling. Similar experiences?

Ok, this doubles as a question and a bit of a rant.

My high school band director is extremely passionate about music. He has always done a fantastic job with composing and choosing the right...

Re: Annoying things people say to drummers...

Completely agree. I was in percussion ensemble class back in September. My brother and I were practicing a drum break for marching band at the beginning of class. A few minutes later, I just heard...

Drum Beat (transcription please)

Could someone transcribe the awesome drum beat in this Alicia Keys song please?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5sriixcJ5g

I'm pretty sure that I'm playing it mostly correct, but there's some...

Can't believe that I forgot about Jerome Flood, I think that he's one of the best YouTube drummers period. Addictive groove at 3:24.

Re: making faces when playing

Yeah, I get the,"You look bored when you play" comment a lot when I play everything except for a drumset. Luckily, the worse my faces gets is just my lips curling in, and that's only when I'm playing...

"Internal tempo" for beginners? (Little to no use of metronome)

Two weeks ago I was going down to my high school from 9am to 3pm everyday for marching band camp and we have a person completely new to the drums, now on snare. My brother and I missed the first two...

Re: My match grip technique, playing with four fingers?

Well part of the reason I became comfortable with four fingers at high tempo is because I seem to get more bounce on the snare, so technically I don't need all of fingers to do the work. Although...

Re: My match grip technique, playing with four fingers?

I have no idea, I know that he currently plays in a band (I think jazz) and teaches percussion at different schools during the year. He probably has marching or drum corps experience if he's teaching...

Re: Advice on Drumline auditions?

You've been given very good advice here. As Winston said, think of those two weeks as a "whole 14 days". Last year I was pulled into my high school's marching band in October that's two months into...

Re: My match grip technique, playing with four fingers?

lol Yeah, same here, my pinkie just "floats" naturally whenever my ring finger grasps the stick. I have more stick control with just four fingers than most of the other percussionists in the band...

My match grip technique, playing with four fingers?

I was at Marching Band practice on Thursday and while I was doing warm-ups on snare, the percussion coach noticed that when I play at higher tempos, I raise my pinkies on both hands, so that I'm only...

Drummers (older drummers), the effect of drumming on your hands? Other medical probs?

I'm mainly asking about how drumming has affected your hands. My brother has described a "a shooting pain/tingling/numb feeling" in his right wrist. Sounds like a pinched nerve maybe? He only gets it...

Re: The better the sound of the drum the more you enjoy playing?

I did notice when I got to high school a year and a half ago, the first time I played the school kit (a mix of pretty good drums, different brands though lol), I couldn't stay away from that kit. The...

Re: Starting jazz band next school year, need advice on how to play jazz.

Thanks for the site. There's jazz as well as funk, rock, hip-hop, etc. beats that I've never heard or thought of playing.

Re: Starting jazz band next school year, need advice on how to play jazz.

I have original recordings to songs they've played saved away on my psp and sheet music for 2 of the songs (St. Thomas and Pick up the Pieces, couldn't really get St. Thomas that well).

I can...

Starting jazz band next school year, need advice on how to play jazz.

I'm going into 11th grade in August and planning to join the school jazz band. Since I started band in 6th grade, aside from usual class and playing my set at home (few hours daily), I haven't had...
