Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

Honestly, we're way too over-obsessed with tuning our drums and worrying about audience. The audience is watching and listening to front person or the major instruments like horns or guitars or keys....

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

You'd let some dude tune your drums on stage just before you start playing at a gig? Really???

Re: Question about sympathetic snare buzz

I recently bought a rack for my snare collection. After a recent gig I set my kit back up too close to the rack. I started getting sympathetic snare buzz from the 4 snares on the rack. They make...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

I know this is an old thread, but if sound dude tried to do that to me before a gig, an ambulance would be needed to cart his arse to hospital. 90% of sound guys have mix turned up so hot it hurts...

Re: Canít hear my kick!

Maybe it's my age, but I can't imagine needing to mic my kick for practice. That's way too over-the-top loud. How's anybody listening to each other in such a horrid environment? There ain't no...

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

Like dudes driving super-big overly compensating pick-up trucks that they never get dirty with the decal of kid pissing on the competitor's logo on their back windshield. Pissing on Ford, pissing on...

Re: Advice on value of monster vintage Pearl kit

No bottom heads on toms is a negative. The size of kit is a problem too. The potential buyer base is going to be very limited. If you sell on line and have to ship that is going to be hugely...

Re: Dixieland

That's kinda stereotyped. More Disneyland fantasy. Shakey's Pizza circa 1973. Not sure real musicians (all wonderful musicians) playing "Dixieland" at places like Preservation Hall in NOLA would...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

I though that might have been a bit of tongue planted firmly in cheek. You got me!

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Trad grip certainly isn't a "Current drum trend". Nothing called traditional could be a current trend or fad lol.

Re: Dixieland

I'd love to play in a Dixieland jazz band, but I've never been able to get any traction around here putting a band together. Preservation Hall clarinet trumpet 'bone that kinda sound.

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

It's a brand. In marketing it's called "Branding". That's what they have done - create a brand. With the brand comes a premium price. They offer lots of finish options and that's part of brand....

Re: British Drum Company

I dunno - Premier is pretty popular around my house lol

These vintage models I took pics of in my collection have excellent build quality and sound amazing. The aluminum Hi-Fi model in pic by...

Re: I can't buy a high end snare drum

I have purchased a few new high-end snares from Amazon. That way you can use any Amazon gift cards you received. I get gift cards as presents from relatives, rewards at work, Go365, etc. Chicago...

Re: I can't buy a high end snare drum

Yes buy used. However make sure you can return it. eBay and Reverb protect you if you receive something defective and it wasn't described as such in listing. Several of my latest snare purchases on...

Re: Thoughts on compact Kit

I didn't like sound of toms at all. There's no music coming from them. Shoeboxes sound better. $850 no way. Compact or not there is nothing there. I'd not pay $50 for them. They sound like a child's...

Re: Building a collection

I have a kit I play for gigs. I keep it set up 100% of time. I also love vintage 3 ply snares with re-rings. I love the sound the finishes the workmanship. I think they're just cool. I'm always...

Re: Wearing watches while drumming

After 50 years of use it probably needs servicing. But since I inherited it from my dad I'm not motivated to hand it over to some stranger and perhaps muck it up even more. Or replace any original...

Re: Kick Snare & Hat

I'd never want to play in a band tasked with "reproducing" sounds exactly as recorded by the original artist. I like creativity and having conversation with other musicians on stage. Re-creating and...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Yeah it took me a long time to figure out until I saw some videos of me playing and I was way angled to my left (audience right). Now I align myself parallel with audience and the kick drum angled to...
