Re: My new Gretsch drums

I'm so excited for you Larry! You've held out for as long as I can remember. It's your time for sure.

What are you playing on currently? Will you keep your current set when the new drums come in?...

Re: The magic of a simple kit

I'll go one further and state that there's magic in simple and confident playing too.

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

This thread is hilarious. I'm definitely guilty of some of the crimes listed here.

I'm not telling which ones. But I am a DW criminal apparently.

Time for me to go on the lam, crap.

On 2nd...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

It's easy to be negative. Definitely a trap to be avoided.

I do understand your sentiment.

Re: Gretsch Flavor

So is this a kit you are admiring from afar or are they actually in your house?

Re: Interesting Observation Regarding Drum Quality and Sound Preferences

Another factor that doesn't get mentioned much...the room where the instrument in question is heard. Oh and the tuning. I can make a great drum sound like garbage. I can almost smell what you're...

Re: quality of drum sounds to the rest of the band is not important

There's that mindset I was referring to.

I don't see it like that. I never adjusted my tuning for hitting less hard. And I'm not sure what you mean by gear being a factor. Maybe sticks. But I...

Re: quality of drum sounds to the rest of the band is not important

FWIW, I definitely disagree that drums have to be played loud to inspire. Volume has zero to do with groove, inspiration, and excitement. I was in a sink or swim situation volume-wise with my last...

Re: quality of drum sounds to the rest of the band is not important

We do deserve to play good sounding instruments. But short that, what we do is not sound dependent. Sure we all want to sound a certain way. But many times (backline or practice kits) that's just not...

Re: quality of drum sounds to the rest of the band is not important

For one, I applaud you Mr. evolving_machine for playing in a way that you are considerate to the other musicians, especially at rehearsal, and taming your lion of an instrument for the greater good,...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Oriollo 14 x 6.5 seamless brass snare drum, raw finish.

14 x 6.5 Pork Pie seamed aluminum snare drum, 8 lug.

I wanted a brass and an aluminum snare for my studio.

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

That before and after pic is insane Jon. I just don't get how a company with over a century of experience look at that and say...yea that looks good to me.

I. Just. Do. Not. Get. It.

I'm all...

Re: Another Benny Benjamin sighting?

Countless Youtube docs. I get a lot out of YT. Today I talked myself out of a traffic ticket, one which I was guilty of what I was ticketed for, from stuff I learned from YT. Big fan.

Re: best walnut snare?

Craviotto steambent should be on this list too.

IMO, steambent or segmented is the best sounding construction...for any wood. Not a fan of stave construction, but they would probably be preferable...

Re: Do 3/4 and 6/8 ‘flow’ better for you?

No pipes were injured as a result of my last post. Proper pipe research. What's that? I made sure I called "Call 2 Dig" before posting. I'm in no position to do any manner of proper underground pipe...

Re: Do 3/4 and 6/8 ‘flow’ better for you?

This sounds like a simple preference for some people.

They "feel better" when the music they play or listen to, is evenly divisible by 3.

I can dig it.

He can dig it. She can dig it. They...

Try this: When you...

Re: Curious about tuning to actual notes

I hear you on the not relying on toms to have a long clear tone...When I play other's toms that suck, I adjust my playing so I don't use them unless I have to. There's only one room that I can't use...
