Re: Drum Solo's - disappointed

I think it's important (or maybe not) to remember that most drum solos aren't intended for other drummers. We have an elitist perspective, and it takes way more to impress us than it does for the...

Re: Patriotic American song ideas for Memorial Day gig?

I highly recommend rocking the National Anthem.

Do this, and no one there will ever forget you . . .

Re: Was this a false start by Bonzo?

Page gives him a look that says "inside joke." So I guess it's either a mistake he made a lot with that song, or Bonzo was messing with him.

Re: Sonor Prolite versus sq2

Thicker shells have higher volume, thinner shells have more resonance. Whether or not they are Sonor.

Re: Letīs talk Tune-bot numbers (Snare Drums)

I recently was fortunate enough to purchase a Steve Smith signature Sonor snare that Steve himself had used at NAMM. When it arrived, it was still tuned as he tuned it. Fortunately, I have a...

Re: anyone else have trouble tuning a sonor kit?

I have an S Class Pro and I learned to tune on this kit, so I don't have much to compare to. I can say I had a hell of a time learning, so maybe there is something about this kit that makes tuning...

Re: What else can I do to be a more in demand musician?

Instead of playing the supply and demand game, play the practice, practice, practice game. And unless you're extraordinarily talented or have a lot of time, stick with one instrument.

And always...

Re: Video clip- testing tom tuning & head selection.

The numbers posted would be the pitch at the lug area of each head with the other head choked or filtered out and would not represent the fundamental pitch of the drum. With the tune-bot, one gets...

Re: Reso heads tighter or looser than batter?

I think the only difference is attack and pitch bend. For a given desired fundamental pitch, with the batter tighter you get a more definitive stick attack and (I think) a pitch bend downwards as it...

Re: How to Tune Drums to Notes by Ear

That's exactly what I would have needed when I was first learning tuning -- something precise instead of a video with someone just saying "see, that sounds good" after twisting their lugs few a few...

Re: Drum shopping is hard...

I know this won't solve all of your problems, but the Drum Tuning Bible has a great section on woods and construction that gives you an idea of what to expect from various types of drums. It could...

Re: What would you say are the "essential" rudiments for grooves on the kit?

That's why I followed up that statement with "even though they provide some cool tools to do so." :)

Re: What would you say are the "essential" rudiments for grooves on the kit?

There are only 5 rudiments that I consider the "rudiments of rudiments." That is, they are each unique unto themselves and all others are just variations that build on them. They are: single stroke,...

Re: Attention Tune-Bot Owners!

It sounds like you're doing it wrong. You don't tune a head to the desired pitch you want the drum at. Rather, you tune the lugs to some multiple of that pitch. So, for example, I tune my drums with...

Re: On a SUPER low budget, need better drums.

There's no such thing as a kit kit that fits a skill level. Actually, the better one is, the less they need a fancy kit.

$100 will not upgrade what you have unless you get really really lucky and...

Re: What is this guy doing??

I can see why you might think that. The camera angle creates a bit of an optical illusion. The key is too listen to it without watching as well.

Re: How good are you at the standard 26 rudiments, and how has this your effected your drum set play

Just as I'm sure you play groves without knowing the names of every one, so to I'm sure you use and play rudiments. There's simply no way to play without using them, whether or not you know their...

Re: Music in, notes out?

Above and beyond Jeff's advise, it's also often helpful to search on Google for "song name sheet music". I find "sheet music" produces better results than "transcription". But both can work.
