Ouf, I know. But I have seen some deals. It might be I end up saving for an AMH kit in Vintage Natural, which is kind of what I want to get anyway. Nothing against RC as they are phenomenal drums as...

Re: Yamaha Phoenix (PHX) Drums

This is old, so apologies for the timing. No one complained back in the day that none of the big drum makers had a 100% one wood shell, either all maple or all birch. The all maple shell trend...

Re: Tama Starclassic Snare Help

I remember Tama had Starclassic Performers like this. All maple or all birch, then the maple was dropped (probably cutting into higher end SCM) and was all birch from 2002 - 2008? when they became...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Or save up for an Absolute Maple Hybrid. Whatever videos I've seen/heard look very promising. Can't wait to see a kit up close.

Re: Jazz band or percussion ensemble?

I'd get in the jazz band, and get so good that the percussion ensemble teacher moves the time of the percussion ens. rehearsal so I could do both!

Re: Musicians who don't want to rehearse

When I worked on the cruise ships, there was always a 2 hour block set aside for the show that evening. If it was a guest entertainer, we'd use that time to run through the charts, stops and starts,...

Re: A thank-you to Paiste

Zildjian on my end. Bought a K DMR and it was my main ride when I worked on ships. A month into my last contract I was hearing a crack in the cymbal, but because of the lathing I couldn't physically...

Re: Multi-Band drummers, How do you choose your projects?

One question to put in your head that I ask myself when I want to take on another project is:

Not only what the pay is, but what the pay is going to be LONG-TERM.

One project I am in plays...

Re: best types of drummers and who are the best

My issue with Gospel drummers, is while all that technique is well and good, they're the first ones to tell you they don't play that way when they're playing with other musicians. In fact, the...

Re: Do you put a button at the end of every live song?

Many times, the last note is played by everyone, it sounds like the band stays tight, stops and starts together.

The guitarist in my one cover band even gave me suggestion as to how he hears the...

Re: New member: What is the best way to learn without a teacher?

I thought I didn't need a teacher when I started playing drums either. I had about 4 years of piano under my belt by then and that's where I learned to read music.

The time I started I had middle...

Re: Downsizing and changing shells.

I think DW Performance Series is, in my mind, on par with Tama SC. Price-wise, the DW Designs are.

Plenty of maple kits to choose from from plenty of brands. Price wise, DW performance and Ludwig...

Re: Worth buying Yamaha Maple Custom?

One of the best kits I got to play at a gig were MC's 10-12-13-16-22. If I were able to go back and do it again I'd save up for a set and would still probably have it now.

Because of their age, it...

Re: Are Ludwig drums for rock?

Tama has had the same thing. Primarily known as a drum choice of rock/metal guys. Elvin was the only jazzer playing them in the 80's that I know of.

Their STAR drums are trying to break that...

Re: Drum Slang and Acronyms

Amen about bass drums!! I bristle when they call it a kick...I play the bass drum, if I have to kick it so you can hear it, something is wrong!

We named our cymbals after our slang:

Re: Vinnie: Back to YAMAHA?

Definitely backline, and definitely a one-nighter. Sting must be on break.

Also, the Front logo head has an Evans logo on it also, and I know Vinnie is not an Evans endorser either.

Re: Ever see a 'big time' drummer before they were famous? Tell us about it!

Reading the posts has me remembering way back, this time 1994. I was one year out of high school. I was part of group of "garage" type bands we had when we were in high school, and those bands knew a...

to me I hear: 16th note triplets fill ...

to me I hear:

16th note triplets fill

the problem is to write it here so you can understand it. Much easier in music notation. I'll give it a shot

C - cymbal hit with bass drum
S - snare

Re: Any big name drummers do something to rub you the wrong way?

After all this, I'm surprised no one has any Weckl stories.

Mine was years ago, I was at 55 Bar in NYC checking out Mike Stern, Amazing set. Anyone who's ever been in there knows the bar is the...
