Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

Slightly OT , but I bought a Gibraltar practice pad that sits on the leg, and its too wide/strap too long....the strap won't fasten to my leg. Ugh. I am 5'9 155 so I'd say design flaw.

Does he actually write that garbage, or do songwriters from corporate dictate?

Re: Worst song ever

Mainstream rap is annoying, and often stupid.

But I can definitely get into real artists such as Rakim, KRS, to Common Sense, Aceyalone (his first two solo albums are classic), etc.

For...

Re: I Play Better When I Donít Practice

I've been practicing much less lately and my playing is more creative and smooth. I think it comes from moving away from the books and systems, and just playing. Those ideas all move to the...

Re: Worst song ever

I know it's pig-piling, but that Rebecca Black? "Friday" song was one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

But you can go though gneres like J-Pop and find equally terrible music and lots of it,...

Re: How many bpms can you cat play?

Cool cat! Samson is a Maine Coon I adopted and he does the same thing. if I'm practicing rudiments in front of him, he'll paw at and grab the sticks. He also picks up and eats treats with his 6...

Re: Do you use moeller for back beats?

To the snare/hi-hat question, you can also use pull-offs ( I guess it would be called) and make for a more linear oriented approach.

Re: Pretty frustrated with adjusting to an acoustic kit

My advice: adjust the Roland bass drum pad if possible, assuming its mesh and can be loosened. Just a slight adjustment on mine and its very close to the feel of acoustics. Just be careful it is not...

Re: When you're in charge, which songs ...

Prohibition then! That's the point of the thread. Let's just ban the entire music industry...the PMRC could never take it far enough!

Re: When you're in charge, which songs ...

Kenny G. No particular song, the entire catalog.

Oh and AC/DC, I find their music and lyrics pointless and repetitive.

Great suggestions otherwise.

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

I don't gig or play in bands, (did an impromptu light jazz/blues thing last weekend with a bassist). I'm currently working on putting together a fusion project. And moving back to the Boston area. ;)

Re: Left hand thumb keeps sliding of the stick

I practiced the "valving" thing that Jojo Mayer demonstrates, where he's using a fulcrum centered around the thumb and intdex, and finger motion alternates between index and thumb. It was fairly easy...

Re: Most inovative and influential drummers.

See the thread below this one for innovative and influential.

Also I'd mention Papa Jo Jones..truly innovative and his demeanor was so relaxed and effortless. Masterful.

I love finding obscure music from decades past...it seems like the Wrecking Crew's best performances were usually the obscure things. I think Hal Blaine mentioned that most of his best work is...

Re: groove vs chops?

If you can't groove, you do not have chops.

Is this true?

Jim Gordon's drum parts in this one are just fantastic, so I uploaded a decent quality sounding mp3. He was obviously playing well in 1973. lol

Re: THE AMBIDEXTROUS THREAD

Yeah, but I don't go overboard with it. I was a weird bird left-footed, right-handed growing up. Every day, I isolate the left hand and foot to work on technique for maybe 20 minutes. When I was...

Re: Do you use moeller for back beats?

dre, I think that if you you have trouble with one strike with moeller whip, multiple bounces or accents will be problematic too. At least up to a certain tempo where control and looseness comes into...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Yesterday I picked up a vintage (mid-late 60s?) 22" A Zildjian, and used but decent shape 13" Zildjian New Beats.

The ride sounds pretty good, I needed an alternative to my mostly world/...
