Re: Cheap recording/editing program?

This

And this.

I struggled with Audacity and Sonar but stepped right into Garage Band with no issues. It was worth buying a Mac just for GB that comes loaded for free.

Re: I HIT TO HARD

I hit too hard also because, 1) I'm a clumsy brute and 2) I switched to an E kit.

When I play an A kit, I just aim for the outer edges of the heads and it cuts the Dbs by 50% or more.

Re: Is live music dead?

It may be dying, but it aint dead yet.

There are far more venues in my area now than there were in the 80's/90's

The venues also pay far less than they used to.

Put a big name drummer behind the kit and, presto.

Re: Advice please?

Keep it simple. If you want to avoid being boring, smile and make eye contact. Pretend like you know what you are doing :)

My first two were utter, miserable failures. I thought I was ready...

Re: Songs with Cello

There is a bunch of synthesized cello in some of The Cars music.

The cello is an awesome sounding instrument and you could use it a lot, even if it wasn't in the original song.

Re: Guy downstairs goes mental when practicing e-drums

It depends on the construction.

If someone is directly underneath you and it is an old style, simple wood framed joist floor, the slap of the kick pads will vibrate straight through and actually...

Re: Bands and tempo arguments

I built a "song" to practice with. It's just a one measure click, then one measure silence a few times. Then the silence increases to two, three, four measures etc.

If I am to be 100% honest, I...

Re: Monitoring an SPD-SX

We run everything through the PA and the SX is the weakest signal by far.

It's not so weak that we have to use a DI. For comparison, on the desk, the SX is at 3 oclock while the vocal mics are...

Re: Bands and tempo arguments

If you rehearse with a click, playing live without one is like a dream come true.

It is SO much easier just to play without being a slave to the click.

It's almost impossible to screw up....

Re: What's your story about how you started drumming?

I'm guessing that these guys inspired quite a few musicians, including me.

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

1) My A kit collects dust. Since I picked up the E drums three years ago, I have logged hundreds of hours that I simply could not have played on the A kit.

2) You could use your Lovely kit with a...

Re: Mounting a Personal Mixer behind the Kit

Look for component that will mount on top of your SPD stand (similar to the one in the Gilbralter link) and make the T part a bit wider and you could mount your spd on one side and the mixer next to...

Re: Why do blues bands want "rock & roll" drummers?

Just do what you do.

Generally, there will be more demand for a simplistic drummer.

I know my strengths and weaknesses also and I'm not at all shy about them. I was working on a song this...

Re: Band Frustrations + 1

There is no point in trying to change other people. You can't set an example and encourage them to see things your way but, people are different personalities and priorities.

Here is some more...

I can turn the proper tempo click on/of at any time during any song using a drumstick..

Re: This forum, meeting each other

If you were more specific with your location, you might find out :)

It's always nice to see locals on message boards. I know Hollywood Jim and EddieV, both in Phoenix.
