Re: Naked shell porn - Old school finishing.

That would look pretty cool, though.

Re: New Mapex Falcon or used Pearl Demon Drive?

I have tried both and I like the feel of the Falcons better than the Demon Drives. I just couldn't get used to how Pearl implemented their direct drive. It was buttery smooth, which is nice, but it...

Re: GRETSCH BROOKLYN mediocre bad quality?

This sounds odd as KMC over here in the states responds very quickly to any issues with Gretsch products. Maybe the international distributer is slow to respond? Have you brought it up to the store...

Re: EPs or Album?

Well, I dont know what the timing is for your band and its budding fanbase, but if things are beginning to heat up, I think you strike while the iron is hot and release an EP now to keep that fan...

Re: Classic Maple Bearing Edges

Well, yes, modifying drums, or anything for that matter, will typically net you less resale value as it will appeal to less people. Thats why I wanted to mention that the 30 degree inner cut bearing...

Re: Classic Maple Bearing Edges

And after all that you have a no-name branded kit that has almost no value on the re-sale market. Hmm... Bad idea, IMO.

According to drum builders on this very site, the degree of the inner cut...

Re: NFL Asks Musicians for Money to Play Super Bowl Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne

If you want to talk about greed, you probably should speak of College sports as a better option. College football is far more greedy than the NFL.

As for pay to play, find a venue that pays you...

Re: Does anyone actually like big finales?

I don't mind a big finale at the end of a show. It gives the crown a chance to give a last cheer for whole performance/show, not just the song, and it gives the band a chance to wave and thank the...

Re: Wrong size tension rods?

You can buy the little female end piece that receives the tension rod. Its a little piece that is removable from the actual lug. You probably cross threaded all of them when you used the finer...

Re: Bearing edge recommendations

Well, I received my samples for the new wrap I am going to put on. Of the 3 I had sent, this one seems to be the most unique.

Re: Wine Barrel Bass Drum

I suppose you could always roll it in to the venue. No need to pick it up and throw your back out.

Re: Looking for help choosing a pro level drum kit

For probably $1K you could buy a used Gretsch Catalina Jazz 4 piece kit and a used Yamaha Stage Custom 5 or 6 piece kit. Take your other Gretsch stuff and keep all the hardware, hoops, throwoffs,...

Re: Looking for help choosing a pro level drum kit

DW Collectors is completely over rated and over priced. Yes, I said it. Quite frankly they are all the same and they charge a fortune for their "exotic" finishes. As you saw just how much more...

Re: Mid/high level kits.

The OP wasnt asking what a "pro" kit is, but what are mid level and high level kits. Low level kits are usually in the sub $1000 price range ( assuming a standard 5 piece kit). Mid level kits are...

Re: Mid/high level kits.

I would put the Starclassic Birch (aka. Performer) below the maples. Not to say Maple is better than Birch, but Tama did some minor things to make the kit a bit cheaper to build. 8 lug bass drums...

Re: Bearing edge recommendations

Prices range all over the place. I have heard $20 per edge. I have seen $20 per drum for small drums and it goes up as size increases. My guess would be that someone would charge extra for doing...

Re: Bearing edge recommendations

I'm just spit balling here, so a drum builder's advise is far better than what I could come up with. I don't run any internal muffling in my bass drums, but I do use Powerstroke 3's on both sides of...

Re: Bearing edge recommendations

So, for the resonant side of the bass drum you are thinking I should go with something similar to the batter side of the bass drum/floor toms? Or are you saying I should go with something like the...

Re: Bearing edge recommendations

I have some samples coming my way for new wraps. I'm not sure when they may arrive, but I'm excited to put a different finish on the exterior of this kit. The all black look really dates the kit. ...

Re: Bearing edge recommendations

Tama's catalogs are a bit goofy with one year saying they used basswood and the next saying they use beech on the interiors. In the end I don't think it matters much to the drum's sound. Mine are...

Re: Bearing edge recommendations

Oh, I know I may be underwhelmed, or very disappointed, with the end result, but what do I have to lose? This kit, while it may be "cherished" as my fist kit, is not really that good. I know it was...
