Re: Odd tuning/reheading issue
Decided to go ahead and crank it up, and the difference does become less with more tension. I think I'm just gonna stretch in for a bit longer than usual to make sure the head seats well with the...

Odd tuning/reheading issue
Hey guys.
So I'm in the process of giving my kit a bit of a head overhaul, reskinning both top and bottom heads on everything.
I've found a really perplexing issue on my 12" tom. I've just put...

Re: Paiste Traditionals or Zildjian K's/Cons.
K Cons, hands down.
The Twenties are nice man, but nothing compares to a Constantinople. To be a little bit more factual about it:
Twenties in my experience have more stick definition, but lack...

Re: Your go-to config
My default set up these days is becoming 1 up 2 down for most things. I do have another rack tom, but it hasn't seen any action since last year. I've also experimented with roto toms, and i currently...

Re: Snare drum keeps loosening
Happens a fair bit with my DW snare as well. Lug locks will do the trick. perhaps stretch the skin if you don't already as well.

Re: Jose Pasillas
So looks like Jose is using an acrylic kit now. Also - he's now using DW snares and hardware (though to my knowledge he switched at the end of the band's touring for the last album)
Here's some...

Re: Igoe to Yamaha; Gavin to Tama
The PHXs are awesome kits, I'm sure Tommy would have weighed up long and hard the decision to switch. Who knows, maybe he was just a bit bored with the same old thing? Drummer's switching...

Re: Any Ideas for a Dry, Dark Sounding Snare
I will definitely second this one. Fantastic if you're after those nice low end notes. Walnut is a great wood, would like to see more drum manufacturers out there doing something with it.

Re: Steve Jordan Crossroads Snare
Mapex Black Panther 13x7 Blaster would be close with the right tuning.
Block snares have a very distinct sound though, so it's going to be hard to get something to sound like one.

Re: What's your Tuning MO?
My method of re-heading and tuning is a rather invovled one...
I'll centre the drumhead, finger tighten the tension bolts, but then I crank the drum head up quite tight. I'll put about 2-3 full...

Re: New DW Kit
I've got a 12x10 as well and apart from a few placement issues (it sits really high on the bass drum) I love the size. Great depth and tone you get out of the shell. Replace those stock heads though...

Re: DW Rata Drums?
The general story behind the rata drums is that they are not DW shells, because for whatever reason, they don't believe in making shells under 8" in diameter. To my knowledge they are Keller shells,...

Re: The "Notes" ?? inside the DW drums
All I know is that it is incredibly easy to tune my toms to even intervals straight off the bat, and that each drum's sweet spot is in that zone.
Yes hardware and all the rest of it does add...

Re: Writing drums for songs..
Even in my own bands this has been said to me. Most of the time that original beat gets thrown out the door sooner or later because the song goes somewhere else when guitars bass and vocals come into...

I have a 10x6 Metro Jarrah block snare as my side snare, and a Brady 14x5 Jarrah ply as my main. They work really well together. Though I only use the side snare in one of my bands songs it stands...
