Re: Has practicing on pillows helped with your speed or control

Hey Jay,

I certainly believe that practicing on pillows can be profitable towards your technique. I wouldn't encourage time away from the practice pad though. For a time I researched many...

Ari Hoenig

Hey guys,

I saw Ari Hoenig last night at The Rex playing with Adam Rogers and it was incredible. His time is ridiculous, his ideas are so clever and his ability to create melodies on the drums is...

Re: Jojo Mayer in Eastern Europe

Thanks man. I appreciate it. I really enjoy making those remixes. I get a lot of positive responses from everyone who's seem them.

That's cool that Carlock was cool about it and that makes a lot...

Hey Matt, what's up? Been a while. Glad to hear you're having a great time over there.

Speaking on the topic of meeting pro drummers, I had that experience before and it was pretty awkward to say...

Re: SPEED MEMORY

Well, it depends how effective your practice routine is. If you have a solid practice routine and you spend a reasonable amount of time on it each day, it'll feel like riding a bike because you'll...

Re: Y'know I was just thinkin'...

I've gone through this sort of experience before. I've used VicFirth 5As, 7As, 8Ds, JoJo Mayer's sticks, Promark's collection and many more. I love using the Peter Erskine Ride stick though because...

Re: Mike mangini's hand technique

Hey Jon,

Well, when I hear that kind of story like "I can do this but for only 3 seconds" it automatically tells me that they haven't actually engaged themselves into a strict practice routine....

Re: Mike mangini's hand technique

Yeah, Jeff is on the ball about this stuff. He knows Mangini pretty well so I would take his word on it for sure.

In a way, my technique is similar to Mangini's I believe because a lot of the...

Re: Clenching problem

Britt is exactly right. It's understanding how to use it. Look up Ari Hoenig and you'll be surprised at how tense he looks when really he's in total control and completely relaxed. He plays like that...

Re: Fastest drum technique? Push Push Pull Pull?

Exactly. Drummers need to stick with an idea and practice it. That's the only way to see if it works. Different techniques work for different people.

BTW, Mangini's record is 1,247.

Re: Fastest drum technique? Push Push Pull Pull?

I'm sure you can find some time in the day to work on single strokes. Even 10 minutes is better than nothing.
