Re: What killed off Slingerland?

There's an early vid of Chicago's Danny Seraphine playing on a Rogers kit and the BD mounted cymbal arm just collapsed on stage.
He had no ride cymbal for the rest of that song.

Re: Did recording yourself make you a better player, and how?

One of the epiphanies of my life was listening to myself on a small cassette recorder playing Tornado.

It dawned on me that after listening to other super snare drumming on recordings from DCI...

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

Cool?
They look like they were designed by a cold war era soviet design bureau.

There was a line in a movie called 123 with Jimmy Cagney where one of the Russian apparatchiks is trying to trade a...

Re: Correct sticking for portraits in rythym

I studied with Jack van Geem who played with Cirone in the SF Symphony and part of the logic in some orchestral sticking is for evenness and tone.

The funny thing is Jack used Mo Goldbergs book to...

Re: Paiste ownership decimated for now :(

Speaking of weird,Craigslist in San Fran has a much better variety of drum and cymbal gear than SoCal.
You would think with all the music industry down there that wouldn't be the case.

Re: Can you be a good drummer with bad math skills?

Colaiuta got as far as Algebra 1 in high school.
I got through calculus.
He's a better drummer than me,so it's all relative.

GC having a 20% off sale

GC is having a 20% off sale on all DW products.

Unlike many other stores that won't let you go below MAP on their site,it actually deducts the $20% off in the cart.

Thinking about picking up...

Re: Which do you enjoy most: Playing by yourself, jamming with others, or playing live?

In order of preference:

1. Playing out. Nothing like a live audience screaming and cheering
2. Jamming kind of like striking up a flirty conversation at a party with a pretty girl
3. Alone...

Re: Charlie Watts ,does he Swing.??,or doesn 't so well..!?.

He tried to throw Jagger off a balcony into a canal one time.
The only reason he did not succeed is because Jagger was wearing a jacket of Keith Richards that he didn't want ruined.

Re: Charlie Watts ,does he Swing.??,or doesn 't so well..!?.

The Stones are a shining example of why not much musical talent is needed for success in the music biz.

Jagger can't sing and Richards is a barely passable guitar player.

Charlie used to...

Re: Charlie Watts ,does he Swing.??,or doesn 't so well..!?.

CW knows he's not Gadd or Buddy and with that in mind plays within himself.

You know that CW is not gonna do a bunch of single stroke six stroke rolls, flammed diddles or a lightning fast 32nd note...

Re: Got drum gear invention/improvement ideas?

I could foresee stick on mikes that can be energized not unlike RFID .

So instead of large mikes that require cable or battery to power them, maybe a smart phone that would let you set up a mix...

Re: 8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

Personal opinion ,10 lugs tend to be more versatile in terms of tuning range and action related to things like rebound.

My snare drum chops are very rudimental in nature as is my style.

I own a...
