Re: Jim Keltner

Fantastic drummer, surprised this thread is so quiet!!

I'm looking for some albums with Jim on them, what would some ideal recommendations be?

Re: Jeff Porcaro

One of my favourite drummers. Played with so many artists, and always added a unique touch to everything he played. One of a kind, and deeply missed by so many, 20 years after his untimely death.

Re: Alan Wren

Watched the Stone Roses live at Heaton Park last night - completely underrated drummer. Even better live than on record, his groove is right on the money.

Re: Don't film Vinnie!

Surprised the guy didn't take the hint earlier. Hilarious reaction from Vinnie though, thats the way to do it!

Re: Larry Mullen

Fantastic drummer, definitely has a unique way of playing. There's a song off the Joshua Tree called 'Trip Through Your Wires', which never fails to get me tapping my foot!

Re: Relatively Simple, Down-Tempo Jazz Selections

I was joking, but that's not to say the OP can't learn anything from it

In all seriousness, if you haven't tried 'Kind of Blue' by Miles Davis yet, you should try that

Re: Have your drumming tastes changed over the years?

When I started out I wanted to be the next Travis Barker/Tre Cool type drummer. This was 6 years ago, and these days, I'm more interested in playing all types of music, as my focus has shifted more...

Re: How often do you use the butt-ends when playing?

All the time. I always use it when I execute a rim shot, as well as occassionally when I need that extra bit of power.

Re: David Letterman Drum Solo Week II

Is the Gavin Harrison video up yet? I liked Tony Royster Jnr. but it felt stiff when he was playing along with the band. His chops are exceptional though.

Re: Steve Ferrone

Been listening to this guy's playing off Tom Petty's Wildflowers for a while now. He is fantastic, plays for the music, and it fits perfectly. 'You Wreck Me' and 'It's Good to Be King' really stand...

Re: Why did you start drumming?

I was always banging things when I was young. The nervous twitch from hell, as Stewart Copeland calls it.

I started drumming lessons at 11. A good six years later and I'm still always learning,...

Re: Starting to play along with songs....

That's good to hear, keep at it!

I'll also suggest Every Breath You Take by The Police and I'll Sleep When I'm Dead by Bon Jovi. You might find the Bon Jovi track slightly confusing if you're not...

Re: Starting to play along with songs....

I'd recommend I Won't Back Down and Learning to Fly by Tom Petty. Fantastic songs to play, and a simple groove.

Re: My 8 year old rocked his talent show tonight

I love how much confidence he has when he plays. I have no doubt he will go on to become a fantastic player. Keep on rockin'!

Re: Jon Fishman

Fanastic drummer, think he's totally under-rated. I love his feel, especially on A Picture of Nectar
