Re: 15" snare drums..pros and cons?

WFL's are probably mahogany, but I'm not 100% sure.

If you're talking about a 10" or 12" deep drum, finding a stand might be an issue.

I think the biggest (possible) drawback is a more limited...

Re: Jazz Kit Idea

A 22" bass drum cranked up sounds pretty convincing too. Most of my days playing jazz were behind a '68 Ludwig Super Classic that was 22/16/13, fitted out with Fiberskyns and tuned up fairly high. ...

Re: Jazz Kit Idea

Without knowing what your current gear is it's hard to not recommend buying more stuff that is better suited to playing jazz, but I really think when it comes to jazz whether a kit is "jazz enough"...

Re: Ludwig 400 throw off...

If the spring is almost completely compressed at "normal" tension I'd say that the throw off probably isn't set up right. I'd remove the snare wires completely and back off the tension knob all the...

Re: Who does KMC own.

So really, who DON'T they own?

That's quite a list.

Re: Ludwig Super Sensitive or Hammered Bronze

Ludwig bronze Supraphonics are simply the best-sounding metal snares I've ever played. They're dynamic, sensitive, and have a tone that seems to work well for any style.

Conversely, Super...

Re: Tom mount setup?

If the tom tom is moving something isn't tight enough. Not sure if it's at the ball or the clamp on the stand, but when flying toms all of the adjustable parts need extra care to be sure they are...

Re: Premier APK - date and wood?

Late 80s - early 90s is my guess.

Not sure what they were made of, but I've never heard anyone say the APK or XPK kits from that era didn't perform well and sound good.

Re: I found another crazy deal and am having a hard time fighting the urge to buy...

Nice score! The Club Custom line was THE one Yamaha line that really had me interested, so I don't blame you a bit for going ahead and getting them.

Enjoy! Looking forward to the review/video...

Re: How much air is in between your hi-hats?

Mine are pretty far apart, about 2.5 - 3". I like being able to have my foot pretty close to parallel with the floor when the cymbals are closed.

Re: Top end brass snare drum

How "top end" do you want to go? What kind of features are important? There are SO many nice brass snares out there it's a pretty wide playing field.

I'll go ahead and mention the Ludwig Black...

Re: 2014 Pearl Sensitone Snare Drums - Changes and Additions!

I'd guess about $425 - $450. Pearl's MAP seems to be about 40% off list.

Re: 2014 Pearl Sensitone Snare Drums - Changes and Additions!

Wow, those lugs are really neat! The new throw off looks really good too.

Pearl is one of the most reliable snare drum builders in the big leagues and I was sad when they drastically scaled the...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

Seeing these kits set up correctly and put together properly really puts them in a whole new light for me. And it is great to hear that they have THE SOUND you'd expect from a Ludwig drum set.

Re: Black Beauty owners - Drumhead advice?

It's still on Aquarian's website and Interstate Music have some in stock, so I'm guessing no. Aquarian's availability seems to fluctuate a little more on all of their heads. I just don't think...

Re: So what's up with Ludwig 2014

It IS a fine line, but one of my biggest issues with Ludwig's drum sets below the USA-made level is the products have been somewhat anonymous, interchangeable, and not very "Ludwig." I can't quite...

Re: So what's up with Ludwig 2014

I feel like the kind of drummer that would be drawn in by the notion of a lower cost Ludwig kit with USA-made shells is going to be put off by either the lugs or the finishes. So having both these...

Re: Makers dozen... 8, 10, or 12?

All it takes is having to change a head once or twice on a 12-lug snare and you'll see why the overwhelming number of snares have 8 or 10 lugs.

Re: Is interior of Ludwig COB unfinished?

Yes, the inside of mine is silver, but not as shiny or polished as the outside.

I don't own one but the few Black Beauty snares I've seen up close have been black nickel on the interior too.

Re: Pearl Free Floating Question...

Pearl did briefly make an 8" deep free floater.

Sadly, Pearl has phased out a lot of snares in recent years and the free floating drums especially seemed to have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Re: Used intermediate birch kit - Pacific vs. Premier vs. Mapex vs. ?

Those all sound like lateral moves to me. I'd either spend a little to fix the things like stripped tension rods etc. or save up a bit more to get a used pro level kit as an actual upgrade.
