Re: Big maple fun :)

I've been waiting to hear maple with your construction techniques. This is a nice surprise. You can see why maple is such a classic sound. I especially liked the bigger drums. The floor tom sounds...

Re: Sloppy fills

Being sloppy can be forgiven if the time doesn't lose or gain any rate of flow. Of course it's best not to be sloppy. If being sloppy sets the time on a new course, that's generally what we want to...

Re: Step one to learning ;)

I take it your friend can't read the written part? That's all you need, right? He can figure out the orchestration on the tom part.

Re: Santos rosewood snare video

Beautiful looking drum. This video sounds much better to me than the first one.

While I can't find any fault, and I do like it, it's not beckoning me. I can't even figure out why. It's like...

Re: No more jam sessions for me. I'm done

Lol ain't that the truth Jim. A bad guitarist is better than a good drummer every day of the week lolo.

But in Martin's case, it must be hard to be a drummer and feel freaked out by the audience....

Re: No more jam sessions for me. I'm done

Jam sessions rely on the drummer to hold everything together. I think I feel a rant coming on...If the drummer goes up there with the intention of trying to impress others with musical creativity and...

They should make a "tidal wave" cymbal.

Ewww soft corn cobs...what a great idea! Imagining that now....mmmmmm.....lol

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

I'm really looking forward to this Andy. I want you to know that I even had the house de-loused and flea bombed. There's still chiggers and bed bugs, but the lice and flea populations will be greatly...

Re: No more jam sessions for me. I'm done

Not dumb at all. Watching jams is great. Even if someone makes poor playing choices, you learn what not to do. The guys who make good playing choices, you learn what works, and you get to see why it...

Re: Being offered a position you don't really want, but could be an experience?

There's a sub genre of music now called Sludge?

How appealing lol. What's next, bloody pus?

Re: Using splash cymbals

The answer to your question, you play it where you feel it. If you aren't feeling the splash sound, you don't play it. It's not something that you consciously should be thinking about. Like...

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

So what, you'd set sail from the Great Lakes, and get out to the Atlantic through the St. Lawrence River? (my favorite river, what's yours?)

What could possibly go wrong?

Don't tell Andy, but I...

Re: No more jam sessions for me. I'm done

Obviously, jamming isn't your thing. So since you don't like it, it's OK not to want to do it. You can go to those jams and just nicely decline the offer to play if you'd rather just enjoy the night...

Re: Sound affected by drum finishes/wraps PART 1

In this situation I'd opt for a codpiece.

I saw what you did there.

He may have invented the verb kick drum.

Was anyone else famous for kicking over drums before Keith?

Re: Sound affected by drum finishes/wraps PART 1

No one said the waves have to be from the drummers POV. Pay attention young man! You're overcomplicating again!

I thought maybe she was flirting with him. But yours is the simpler answer. :P

Yes. Definitely yes. The bass drum waves vibrate at a lower frequency, like light waves do in the...

Re: paradiddle time subdivision question

Moving the accents around really changes the feel. Is accenting the diddles something teachers teach? Or accenting 1/2 of the diddle? Why not, right?

Re: paradiddle time subdivision question

Helped me lol. Sorry for the fail.

The accent thing I didn't know, and I've been doing my paradiddle-diddles wrong! I was repeating half of it!

Humbling is the word I'm looking for.

Re: Sound affected by drum finishes/wraps PART 1

I'm pretty sure it was meant as a funny, judging by the last sentence. Up till then I thought it was serious.

Re: The sound guy

I don't deal with soundmen, but if I did, I think I would offer to buy them a drink, or do something of that nature. (before I play!) Because (this is what I would say) I really appreciate the...
