What do you think of this one?

Re: Die-cast or not die-cast hoop? Snare advice.

I'm just a little worried that I will break a wood hoop if I hit too hard. But maybe they're more durable than I think?

Die-cast or not die-cast hoop? Snare advice.

Hello there!

I'm about to buy a new snare and I'm looking for one to get a really deep, punchy sound. I have a 14x6.5 Sonor Essential Force snare now but it isn't good enough for me.

I'm...

Re: Tama VS. Pearl

I'd pick the Silverstar any day. "Smarter" hardware and better looking finishes, in my opinion.

Alan White too. He's done stuff with John Lennon, Yes, etc.

Re: The most "influential" rock albums

Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan

Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan

Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen

Exile On Main Street - Rolling Stones

Plus probably most Beatles albums.

Re: How long did it take you to tune well?

10 years and still counting.

I'm good at tuning snare drums. I always get a decent sound. Ever since I got my Gretsch about a year ago, I've been learning to tune the other drums as well. I've got...

Re: Are you a Groove Player or a Technical Player?

Somewhere in between. Probably leaning a bit towards Groove.

Re: 2 up 1 down vs 1 up 2 down

1 up, 1 down.

I can put my ride and hats where I want them and I really only need two toms to do what I do.

Re: can you fatten up any snare?

I'm not sure I'm with you on this one. If you tune your reso head to a lower pitch than the batter head, the snare will probably sound like a flat tire. I tune my reso head really tight even when I...

Re: How often do you practice? For how long?

I practice on my drums in my basement 30 minutes a day. I practice with a pad approx 15 minutes a day. I play in bands with others approx 60 minutes a day.

Re: Help please, Craigslist Ad

I'd jump on it. The cymbals are almost worth 700 alone if they're in good shape!

Re: Cymbal Tightening

I use Tama's quick set "wing nuts" and I think they're great. I keep my crashes loosy goosy but my ride is fastened just a little bit.

Re: What is classified as professional gear?

I consider the gear I like using to be professional. I really like my low-end Tama cymbal stand, therefore I consider it to be professional. Someone else might not like the stand, and would therefore...

Re: Ian Wallace

I'm bringing this thread back to life, for better or for worse.
I'm surprised Ian doesn't have a DW page. He's played with so many great artists - I'm listening to Bob Dylan at Budokan (1978) now, a...

Re: Buying a New Kit? What Should I Look For?

One thing I've learned from buying drums, cymbals, cymbal bags, tech stuff etc. is to always spend a little more money than you want to. I've been the most satisfied with the equipment I bought for a...

Re: Most versatile wood...Maple, Birch, Mahogany, Oak?

Great post. It's not the wood of the drums that defines the drummer, it's the drummer who defines the drummer.

Re: Slingerland Bsas drum

Maybe the Evans Emad batter head will suit you. It's a pre-muffled one ply head were you can adjust the dampening by inserting different size foam rings. Maybe you've heard of it. EDIT: You probably...

Re: TAMA Imperialstar or Gretsch Blackhawk Euro

You got a good deal in my opinion.

For ~500$, this is what I'd personally buy if I bought new cymbals.

Re: Setting up a single Pearl tom

One of these DW L--arm clamps, mounted to either the hihat stand or the crash stand, and you're set.

Re: TAMA Imperialstar or Gretsch Blackhawk Euro

You seem to have made a good decision. Tell us more about what you think once the kit has arrived. How much did you end up paying?

Re: TAMA Imperialstar or Gretsch Blackhawk Euro

Yes, and Tama are also known for the quality of their cheaper kits. I'm not saying which of the two kits is better, but the Tama probably won't let you down.

Re: TAMA Imperialstar or Gretsch Blackhawk Euro

There's really no right or wrong here. I don't honestly know which one of the kits I'd choose. All I can say is, follow that inner voice of yours and buy the kit you get the most happy from thinking...

Re: What 18" crash would be suitable for constant crashing for rock genre

I have 17" and 18" Paiste 2oo2 crashes and I love them. Especially the 18" really inspire me. The 2oo2 crashes are very bright and cutting (e.g. Bonham used them) and they're perfect for the kinda...

Re: TOM TUNING

That's actually a pretty interesting advice, plus you mentioned two songs/albums I really enjoy (I think Modern Times is brilliant).
