Re: 80s and 90s drums (the Glam Rock ones)

I have an early to mid 80's Ludwig set. I believe it is a super classic. It was ordered at a local music shop and the buyer could not pay once it came in, so I got a good deal on it.

It has the...

Re: Annoying store experience.

+1 on Village Drum and Music and Al Drew's. Both owners play in bands and are almost always on site. They both have new gear and get in interesting vintage gear as well.

Re: Muscle Seizing/Fatigue at Gigs

[QUOTE=larryace;1133097]
Alcohol, soda, junk food, energy shots....all bad for drumming.

Larry,

I have used the 5-hour energy shots and not had any ill effects. My normal bedtime is around...

Re: Ludwig Club Date NOT discontinued

Bob-You certainly have the most tricked out CDSE tom mount with your latest creation!

Someone also had the issue with the washer in the wrong place before.

One of us should start a "show your...

Re: Ludwig Club Date NOT discontinued

Welcome Boneless- make sure the washer that they give you is on the OUTSIDE of the metal teeth. The spring goes inside (but you don't really need it) and the washer goes on the outside right before...

Re: DW, the Scientology of drum companies?

My opinion is that all the higher end drums from the major companies are going to sound great with the right heads and tuning. it has been discussed here before that even mid-line kits from most...

Re: Worth rims mounting?

I took the rims type mounts off my toms and went with the Ludwig Atlas mounts so I could see more of the shell. The wrap around mounts covered a lot of the lacquered shell, especially on the 10" tom....

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

Whenever I speak to a stringed instrument player ( bass or guitar), they say the same thing about how it is equally uncomfortable for them to play out of someone else's rig. I see the point about...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I get it on the most important thing being the snare-kick-hat triangle.
My issue mostly with this set was the height of the cymbals.
if the provided kit is a "standard" set up (I always think...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I did get the idea to buy a china cymbal from this experience- I never had one, but using his, I noticed that they really cut through the mix. Actually fits in well with the classic rock that we...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

The band that we opened for was an 80's hair metal cover band. There seem to be a few of these popping up here in Southern New England. I guess the 40-50 year olds are reliving their youth.
Anyway-...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I did bring my hat stand, seat, snare, and cymbals, as well as my pedal.
I ended up using my seat and bass pedal.
Cymbal adjustability was limited by the mike placement on the toms. I guess some...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

here is a sample of the gig. The tom angle actually looks reasonable from here, but on my set up you cannot see the bottom heads. I think you can kind of see that I am reaching for the cymbals,...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I did the gig last night. it went off well-even though it was a fish-out-of-water gig in that we were opening for an 80's hair metal band. We managed to get some of the leather clad peroxide-blondes...
