Re: Help! Premier kit - is this an XPK? Cabria? APK?

Definitely a mid to late 90s XPK

Birch/Eucalyptus/Birch 3 ply shells - slightly undersized like the Projector series.

Seriously good quality, well finished drums and usually underpriced as they...

He has them on the toms, too.

Re: Chad Sexton's overhead mic setup

I think what we are looking at hanging down from the rack is the rear end of a boom holding the mic under the snare. It's one of those flat Sennheiser thingys like a 609, 906 or whatever?

Re: 1970's Vintage Original Staccato 8 piece "Thunderhorn" Drum

Ha Ha - I swear I was totally without any mind altering substances!

We actually thought Max Webster were every bit as good as Rush.

Re: 1970's Vintage Original Staccato 8 piece "Thunderhorn" Drum

I saw a Canadian band called "Max Webster" supporting Rush in the Hammersmith Odeon, London, around 1979. ( When I was about 18 !) The drummer had a white set of these Staccato drums and I was...

Re: Snare Drum sound...

You can get some part of the way easily:
1: Evans Genera DRY on the batter head
2: Hazy 300 or even 200 on the reso - a lighter reso head will give a shorter sustain.
3: Tune your reso tight for a...

Re: Why no modern single/3-ply shells?

Premier kits from the late 1960s through to early 1980s are an option from ebay here in the UK. IMHO they are vastly undervalued for the quality of construction. I've got two sets of Oyster wrap...

Re: Bass drum damping for uncut heads

UPDATE !!!

At last I got to try my long awaited combo.

Fiberskyn PS3 on the batter and Fiberskyn Ambassador on the resonant - uncut but with a length of damping felt. No internal damping or...

Re: Bass drum damping for uncut heads

I must reveal now that I'm a fan of cotton-wool balls. Bought cheaply by the bag at a chemist ( drug-store ) you just give your drum a good shake when setting it up and they find their position. Like...

Re: 22 x 14 bass drum ?

I would agree that manufacturers are always on the lookout for a new idea to separate their product line from the competition. It's called Brand Differentiation. They may well consult some pro...

Re: 22 x 14 bass drum ?

To explain my interest in this, I have recently been investing in a few vintage Premier kits, from the early 1980s back to the 1960s; both for my own interest and for my hire stock.

I do find that...

Re: Bass drum damping for uncut heads

The velcro strips ( which are the "hooks" side ) have a very strong adhesive backing and they stick to the inside of the shell.

I did find that when I peeled them off, they pulled away some...

Re: Bass drum damping for uncut heads

I tried a Superkick II on an 18 x 16 ( Mapex Orion ) with an uncut Fiberskyn on the reso.

I did have an Evans pillow thingy inside too - stuck down with the velcro.

Whilst I only played it in...

Bass drum damping for uncut heads

Here's a question for all you guys who run a bass drum with an uncut resonant head.

What do you do about damping material (if any) inside?

Obviously it has to go in before the last head goes...

22 x 14 bass drum ?

If your favourite drum manufacturer started producing (again ? ) a 22 x 14 bass drum, who out there would buy it?

Who has got a kit with a 22 x 14 and do you like it?

Have you got some pictures...

Re: Any Ideas for a Dry, Dark Sounding Snare

+1 for the Evans Genera Dry head.
I've got one on a late 1970s Premier 14 x 6.5 steel and its dark and dry as you like.

Vintage Premier Snares

I Just bought this gorgeous Premier Royal Ace which I believe dates from the late 60s to early 70s.
Has anyone else got a golden oldie they'd like to share?

Re: 1978 Premier Soundwave Elite 7 Piece Natural Wood Kit

Just got into vintage Premier myself - with a Crown 13/14/16/22 kit.

I LOVE your Soundwave kit - I hope you either kept it or got a good price for it.

Sooner or later there will be a revival...

Thanks for that. I wonder, does anyone have scans of, or access to, any catalogs of around 2005 or maybe earlier? I can't find this particular finish in any of the charts I have found so far. Any...

Mystery Ludwig snare

Not an oldie, but a new-ish one that doesn't seem to appear in any catalogs or images I can find online. I'm guessing the body is birch or maple ( how could I tell the difference?) with a Mahogany...

Premier Crown range information??

Hi Everyone.
I've just bought an old set of Premier Crown drums in Natural Birch finish.
Sizes 22x14 13x9 14x10 16x16
I believe they were made early 1980s, but they seem to be pretty rare, and I...

Re: 10" / 13" / 16" Tom sizes - your thoughts???

That's a lovely looking kit.

I think you should try to find a deeper snare, though!!!
