Just a point of information.During that point in time,the great majority of shell construction was 3 ply mahogany/poplar/mahogany.

Maple wasn't used unless it was a custom natural or catalog...

+1...Yes it was.He inherited quite a bit of cash,which is why he wasn't as keen as the other 3 Monkees to do tours after the show was cancelled.

He also negotiated a better contract with Colgems...

I did actually.But did you know that Bill Ludwig Sr. liked the logo of a certain motor oil,which was a keystone and chose it to be that badge on his drums?

The snare looks like the 4160 60's round badge .Gretsch only offered real 24K gold or chrome over spun brass in that model,but the chrome look pretty beat up and you may be surprised how nice it will...

Ok...listen.There is no best,there's personal preference and opinion.

Lots of drummers change their snare as often as they change their sox.

I have around 25 myself,and go through 10 of them...

Usually the coated Ambassador over a hazy 300 do the trick.Try a diplomat or a hazy diplomat on the reso side.

Maybe switch to a fibreskin 3 on top,or consider an Aquarian vintage snare side.not...

Not all Artstar II snares had die cast rims.Some models had 2.3mm tripple flanged.
