Just a point of information.During that point in time,the great majority of shell construction was 3 ply mahogany/poplar/mahogany.
Maple wasn't used unless it was a custom natural or catalog...

That snare is a Ludwig 552 K hand hammered bronze supra phonic snare.Their current market resale values is just slightly less that Ludwig Black Beautys.and in some cases,exceed that in E bay bidding...

The snare looks like the 4160 60's round badge .Gretsch only offered real 24K gold or chrome over spun brass in that model,but the chrome look pretty beat up and you may be surprised how nice it will...

Usually the coated Ambassador over a hazy 300 do the trick.Try a diplomat or a hazy diplomat on the reso side.
Maybe switch to a fibreskin 3 on top,or consider an Aquarian vintage snare side.not...
