Well, double bass is a VERY VERY common piece of equipment among metal drummers. But it isnt something you need.
If you wanna get really good at it I recommend "Double Bass Drumming" from Joe...

1. Listen to the song. Maybe a few times.
2. Make up the drum parts in my head. Come up with ideas.
3. Talk to the band...

hm.. yaaaaaaaa. but there seem to be a lot of people that somehow think drummers have the ability to always start at the right tempo (like were different) and that using a metronome is a "crutch" or...
