Re: Universities and Music *sigh*

There you go, then. Screw college. Pursue your goal. Start your business with your parents as your initial and most crucial investors.

Practically speaking, making music is a vocation, just like...

Re: Universities and Music *sigh*

If you can't sight read, you don't want to go to any university music program that'd accept you. Sight reading is absolutely required for admission to any School of Music worth the name.

Re: What is this triplet thing called?

Nah, not stupid. ;-)

Asking questions is never stupid.

Unless you're asking, "Is my incredibly rare Stage Custom kit worth anything?" Then you're asking a stupid question. :-D

Re: Universities and Music *sigh*

I think it's a waste of time. You're setting yourself up for a world of hurt with this scenario, if you or your parents are taking out any student loans. If they're not, if they've saved wisely and...

Re: What is this triplet thing called?

It's a triplet, played over 2 (or 4).

Just because it's not in 9/8 doesn't mean it's not a triplet.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Clearly I did miss the point. I apologize. :-D

Justification of subjective likes and dislikes can be an interesting discussion. I like to know why you might like, say, a particular drummer's...

Re: Best way to tune a Powerstroke 3 for Bass Drum?

"Better" is subjective.

For me it's "tighter than JAW, so I get to hear the drum, not just a toneless thud, but not so tight that it goes boing instead of thump. At the same time, I want some...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Way to selectively read. Clearly you missed the part of my post which said you can't really argue over purely subjective things, like whether vanilla is better than chocolate.

Of course you did....

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

You are by no means entitled to your opinion. You are only entitled to those opinions which you can defend.

Patrick Stokes wrote an excellent essay...

Re: Whose voice would you like to have counting on your metronome?

Of course there must be commentary interspersed with the simple counting.

"You call those RUDIMENTS? When I was in the RAF we FARTED better rudiments than that!"

Re: Best way to tune a Powerstroke 3 for Bass Drum?

It depends.

Are you going for Throne Tone or Gig Tone?

If it's Gig Tone, is the drum going to have a microphone?

Is the resonant head ported?

Too many variables! :)

Re: Tempus ordered, payed in April- snare still not there

First, let me say that your situation stinks. I feel really bad for you. It's also painfully apparent that Mr Mason has had problems.

Let me give you (and everyone else reading this) some...

Re: Bearing Edge Dressing

I have also experienced a slight deadening of tone from oiling the interior of my poplar shells. Not a thuddy "schwack" by any stretch. I think it made a detectable difference, though I have no way...

Re: Band PA ownership options - thoughts, experiences

A or D, with a strong leaning toward D. It's yours and always will be yours, but the band gets to use it at a rate much lower than what they'd encounter if they had to rent a PA for each gig.

DO...

Re: Comparing oneself to others (drummers)

I do my best not to compare my playing to others, though I admit it's a natural human response. Music is not a competitive pursuit - or at least it shouldn't be, despite [PLACE] Has Talent-type TV...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I don't know if you know this, guys, but Antidisestablishmentarians often suffer from Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.

Now stop sniping at each other. Dammit.

Re: Good covers for this type of band?

Depeche Mode's Just Can't Enough is simple enough to transfer from the synth to "real" instruments, and is quite a lot of fun to twist in a cover. A band I was in did that with a Social Distortion...

Re: Traveling Drumset

There's an accessory bag to haul it around. I'm getting one. But before I travel with it I'm buying a hard case that'll fit it.
