Re: Should you always be keeping time with the left foot?

Time should come from an internal place and not be dependent on any one limb to execute or express it. Perhaps easier said than done, but a worthy goal.

It can be helpful and sound great to play...

Re: That moment....

I'm ^^This all the way.

I haven't done a ton of these, but a few anyway. And as much as I was freaking out before the first one, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I got into my usual zone...

Re: Trouble With Dunnett SS

What kind of snare bed does it have? Narrow and deep (vintage style, crimped), or wide and shallow (modern, "barely bed")?

Re: Trouble With Dunnett SS

12 strand would be good to try if you're already comfortable with that vibe.

If it were me, I'd put a 20 on there since that's what I'm used to hearing. I'd establish that as a baseline first....

Re: Trouble With Dunnett SS

While I don't have any experience with that particular snare, I have had three high-end snares I couldn't make friends with (Joyful Noise TKO Brass, DW Edge, and DW Collectors Maple).

I couldn't...

Re: Best drums under $1500?

Also heavily depends on what configuration you want. I'm very particular about my shell sizes so last few kits I bought had to be special ordered. I've never seen my kit configuration on display at a...

Re: seamlessly switching between singles and doubles around the kit

I guess my first question is why you'd worry about 16ths around the kit using doubles.

Not to sound snarky at all, but I'm thinking practically nobody does this, and probably not on any of the...

Re: Drum Sticks for New Students

I always thought 5As were the most middle of the road sticks, but probably because that's what someone told me when I first started. Wasn't long before I went to 5B and 2Bs so I can definitely see...

Re: Outdoor Shows - Head and Humidity

Man, that sounds like pure hell. I hate being in the sun. Everyone thinks I'm a freak for running from one shady spot to the next whenever the sun is out, but what can I say? It's like I can feel the...

Re: Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

This piece is satire in the spirit of Jonathan Swift's famous "A Modest Proposal" from almost 300 years ago, which itself was carrying on the tradition extending back centuries before. That was also...

Re: Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

Totally Grea, I love it when you write sentences like that! I think that was the point of his article (and the point of me posting it here? lol), but I got the impression that he wasn't entirely...

Re: Favorite floor tom size and why?

I have a 15x14 and an 18x16 and they play well together. But I f I had to pick just one floor, it would definitely be a 16 - either 15 or 16 deep. Maybe 14 deep but probably not.

Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

Sure to raise hackles and get some people bent out of shape, but I read this and got quite a laugh from it. We've all read the same versions of the opposite view. This is the first counter argument...

Re: Favorite throw off and why?

Low profile, lightweight, and simple. Nothing that's gonna get hung up on, or be a squeeze for a snare case.

I like the general design of the P-86 even if it feels a little flimsy. I would...

Re: 12x8 or 13x9 for single rack tom??

I have a 24x14 with 15 & 18 floors. I also have a 12x8 and a 13x9, though only ever use one at a time for the 1 up 2 down setup. So which do I prefer? The 13x9 all the way.

Re: History of Ride Placement

I started drumming with the old standard 5-pc 2-up, 1dn where the ride was far to the right and low over the floor tom.

Now that I only use one up (for the last 20 years or so), I still keep the...

Re: Too Old To Play???

I think *some* people can fit the old dog / new tricks model, but it's not a given. It just depends on how receptive (youthful?) your mind is when it comes to picking up new things. Maybe older folks...

Re: What's your favorite drumset category? Drums, cymbals or hardware

Drums are cool, but once you arrive at sizes and configuration and dial them in with heads and tuning, you're all set. Not that that isn't a process in itself, but it does often have an end point.

Re: The state of pop music

Pop music is, and has always been, about catchy songwriting. It's those melodies that stick in your head for days on end that make it what it is, not the players' chops. It's often the case that...

Re: Incorrect terms and Discrimination

They didn't say anything about drumsticks, so one might rig up an acoustic guitar in a snare basket and beat it into oblivion with a pair of marching sticks. That would be fun to see.

Re: Video Camera Advice

Thanks for all the tips, all.

I ended getting the Zoom Q4 since any Zoom seemed like the obvious choice from an audio perspective. Used it at a dinky dive bar gig the other night (Taco Tuesday!)...

Re: Video Camera Advice

Thanks for the tips, drum bros!

Seems like the two-step process of combining audio and video after the fact is what I'm looking at.

Still, what's the cheap and easy method for using the iPhone...

Re: Drinking and Drumming

Well, I'll be in the heathen minority here ... I like a few beers, I like drumming, and I like them at the same time - at practice and at shows. Haven't killed anyone or been sued for malpractice...
