Re: Naked shell porn - Old school finishing.

I love the way the grain is arced...It reminds me of water..or movement...Stunning really.

6 hours of sanding is a lot. Your arms must feel like rubber bands.

Re: Becoming a Professional Drummer

You just have to stand in awe at the magnitude of Bill Ray's post. Another nomination for post of the year. I feel like I've been in the music business after reading that. Thank you Bill Ray.

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

Yes please LMK when you are in town. You play the Tail! I've played the Twisted Tail on many occasions. Great load in eh? Those back steps are steep. And the parking enforcement is treacherous. If...

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

Mike I've heard of your band. I checked your show schedule...nothing in Philly for the foreseeable future. I'd like to see one of your shows.

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

Your whole post is great but this is the crux of the biscuit AFAIC.

Kinda missed this earlier, so whoops. I'm understanding now. The footsplash really drove the point home for me. There's a really...

Yes.

Yes they did.

My favorite mod is the pic in your post Jim.

That looks like it would really work.

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

OK I was just trying to make my cymbals airlock, it took about 30 seconds to find the right spot, and I'm pretty sure drilling holes in the middle isn't the answer.

Here's why:

When I get the...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

I use 14" hi hats and I have 3 - 7/16th holes in them. Soon to be drilled out to 3/4's with a fourth hole added, maybe a 5th, new cup, new rubber grommets, and something with no felt underneath. I'll...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

I stated in the original post that they are spaced varying distances from the bell. I wanted to cover multiple zones. I think it's just not enough venting, because I can feel the air compressing when...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

It only happens with foot chicks. I use my left foot for a hell of a lot. My hi hat gets more more chicks than anyone I know lol. It might happen once every 3 gigs, and it's not really a big issue....

Re: need help counting

It's all in 4/4, so no different time sigs. It's all about where to put your stops and stabs. Listen to it 10 x and you will have it. The stops and stabs all fall on quarter notes, not on the ands....

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

I know right? And it does feel like compressing air. That's the spongy feel I was talking about. But I have holes, so air can't be compressed. Or so I thought. It obviously is still being compressed....

Re: Stepping outside the box :)

It's no secret that you keep a busy schedule Ands. It's the ratio of the amount of soul satisfaction vs time spent. The bigger the gap the better. So you'd have to try to see what that is.

What's...

Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

This helps me get a better handle on who I am interacting with here. I have a few questions also feel free to add anything else, like links to your band, whatever.

1. How many bands are you in?

Re: Looking for help choosing a pro level drum kit

Since it will stay at home, get what excites you.

I've gigged $6000.00 DW exotics for 4 years. I get an equivalent sound from my under $500.00 PDP's. Gigging drums...the less you pay the better,...

In case I haven't told you lately, I really like the stuff you have been posting Scott. It's a real breath of fresh air. Thank you.

Re: Left hand thumb keeps sliding of the stick

Do thumb exercises to strengthen your thumb. Your thumb is crucial in matched grip. You need a strong thumb. You weak hand has a substantially weaker thumb than your dominant hand. That in a nutshell...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

No, it's a volume reduction thing.

Yea tilting works, but sometimes the 2 cymbals get in the perfect position to cause this phenomena, even with a tilt, even with holes drilled.

Re: Some Fine Blues Drumming early 60s

OMG thank you so much for this! It's Christmas here! Junior Wells....seems like James Brown took some cues. When people say Blues is boring, I will point them to this. Can't thank you enough. I've...

Re: Stepping outside the box :)

Only you can answer this Andy. Only you know how much it calls you. Maybe you have a need to be in an original band again. As far as the music, you'd fit right in. I bet you could even use windchimes...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

I'll try replacing the hi hat cup and use rubber grommets instead of felts. The cup and felts have been on both HH stands for over a decade. Thank you all for your suggestions. I hope this works.

Re: What's My Next Move?

My 2 ruples... I'd start with a core trio, whatever instrumentation you envision. You need a core first.

Since you are the one organizing, I'd say your "responsibility" consists of 3 things. You...
